It’s stood out like dogs testicles that this the area on field we are the weakest whether you think Teague is shit or not.
Walsh has been outstanding
Cripps ok but we know he can be better
Kennedy has been ok the second half of the year
Dow in small patches has shown he can be ok but overall know where near enough
Curnow is 31 and seems to be not playing as much in there

Everyone else is shit
You need 8 or 9 through there to be a good side
Against average opposition the last 4 matches we have played 3 good quarters out of 12
Proof positive we are miles off it
DeKoning is going ok
Today we got beaten at the clearances by 12. GC one the tap outs by 6
In a low possession game we were pansed possession wise
The most damming stat is km travelled
Guess who was number one today
Sam Walsh
The next 4 we’re all GC players
In regards to total sprint efforts GC had the top 3
I have some thoughts on what we can do
I would like other posters thoughts first

Maybe Kemp, Carroll and Philp will become quality mids for us.
One can only hope....

Agree, we can’t lose hope , the youngsters you mentioned certainly have talent , if their player continues to improved given inevitable changes to coaching structures, and the pandemic is put behind us , they may well become good contributors.

Arguably the worst midfield in the AFL. Only one elite player.

I would trade 3 B and C graders for Cerra who has A grade written all over him.

Would you do that trade if you were Freo?

Playing Dow instead of Ed more in the middle has more upside but Paddy was awful today.

LOB couldn’t handle a game with more heat either.

Fisher, too one sided and not enough tricks to be a small forward.

Ruck an issue obviously too.

TDK’s actual ruckwork at centre bounces has gone backwards at a rate of knots. Just like Pittonet. Both had better technics when they started. Whether we like it or not, we need a decent ruck coach. Love Humphrey but I’m seeing the same issues he had being developed through to these 2, ie. Tap to my feet and get get the ground ball. We have midfielders for this role.

Our midfielders are chasing bums at every bounce because the opposition is getting easy exits.

Exactly ,of all of the ruck coaches out there why Kruzer ?? What’s next Murphy as the misfiled coach next year !!

We need a fresh start this pre season , fresh ideas and coaches that have come from winning cultures

Club needs to give our elite back line and forward line an elite midfield to compliment before it's too late.

Misfield, that’s a rather apt description of our group….

If we could somehow merge Dow, Fisher and O’Brien we may come up with a player strong enough to play AFL.

I can’t say it enough but when you have inside talent like Cripps, Kennedy, Walsh, Setterfield and Stocker and outside talent like Dow, Cuningham, SPS, Fisher, O’Brien and add others like Martin, Williams, etc. It’s not personnel but coaching, structures, setups and endeavour.

That’s is what is missing - not talent or lack of options.

Keogh your post is pretty spot on, we don't bat deep enough in there, and we get beaten too often. We don't run hard enough defensively either.

Agree Dow has shown some potential this year, but too inconsistent between quarters. Kennedy has also been good. Stocker is tough and looks like he could move in there in the future and kicks the ball beautifully.

Jury out on Fisher, Cottrell, Fogarty, SPS - none seem like worldbeaters
Setterfield and O'Brien both awful
Carroll, Kemp, Philp - unknown.

I still wouldnt trade our first pick for Cerra. I think we need a decent developing tall backman. If Jones or Weitering don't play 22 games, we are flowered.

Well if you read every 2nd post we have a shite load of players who should be in the midfield.
Cripps
Walsh
Dow
Curnow 1
Curnow 2
Cunningham
Stocker
Fisher
SPS
Fogarty
JSOS
Obrien
Murphy
Williams
Kennedy
Setterfield
Cottrell
Newnes
Ramsey
Durdin
Kemp
Carroll

That is 22 players capable of playing in the midfield 17 drafted 5 traded in

How can anyone possibly suggest we have not drafted enough midfield players.

Our issue isn't who it is how.
