Priceless performances. Seriously, said it before this year I’ll say it again. No Walsh and blues would be staring at floggings each week and 60 point defeats at the pointy end of the season. Can’t think of a player in recent times who is so consistent, always improving his game and leads from the front, inspiring the baggers over the line or at least to win some junk time catch up goals if the game is beyond winning. Even Judd wasn’t this good when he played for us. His solo brilliance didn’t involve others enough. Have to go back to a Williams (opposite kind of midfielder) or Bradley for worthy comparison.

Loved Kennedy's game. He can mark it like a forward around the ground, great stuff.

Geez we got a bit banged up today. Betts, Williams, Newnes, Harry all needed attention. And all played on

Anyone else well up when the kid was struggling after the game?
What it’s all about … and reminds us why we love this *#*+.?!€*}#!! club, despite what we’ve been through the past 20 years.
We’ve got history most other clubs can only dream of.

Loved that they got up this week and to come from behind made it even sweeter, reminding us all of where we are coming from and where we are headed.

Happy for JSOS and SOS and all their families that Serge was honoured in a fitting gutsy win. In never saw him play but my mum or auntie once told me they used to buy their groceries at his store in Coburg somewhere :-)

Both captains out, and ladies and gentleman we have leadership to run the ship.
Weitering Walsh thoughout. Harry in the last.
The spirit of Serge through Jack. Felt it from my screen.

Walsh will be better than robert Harvey. May win 3 Brownlows.
Walsh just runs and runs and tackles and hits and doesnt stop, and runs faster than Harvey. My take.

Dow's first quarter showed what he can do. Needs another preseason to add to his newfound belief.
Heaps of improvement left in him.

Kennedy is lighter and hits harder. I like his intensity and desperation.

Tom DeKoning has a few more years of development to go, but by jesus this kid competes.
His 3rd quarter was huge against one of the best 3 rucks in the comp.
Jacks ruck work in the last, not to be ignored. Seriously smart ruckwork against the best in the AFL.

Saad is a machine. Great 4 quarter effort.
Williams intercept marking was seriously unbelievable, and a staple in our win.
Good to see Martin going hard, but HAS TO nail his easy set shots for the player he is suppose to be.

FMD, Stocker is hard as nails and how old is he again? 20yo. FMD look at those guns. Can kick a ball.

Betts can't retire. The only forward who goes hard at it 4 quarters, week in week out, and I know some game isn't rewqarded.
Betts has to go again next year. He's what we need in Finals.

Weitering undefeated as captain. Says it all.

The rest played a role tonight.
Like I said Owies has to nail shots at goal or else.

Charlie will cause chaos for opp defences with Harry and Jack.
Cripps can allow more minutes to younger brigade.
Gov will find it hard to get a spot in the first 22.

The F word is on the tip of my tongue.
North is next for 4 wins out of 5 games.

Blue Skies.

Best summary of my feelings about the game and players so far (working my way through the comments).

I reckon Jones was solid towards the end too, although you did give a shout out to everyone in general.

Totally agree about Eddie. He contributes so much even when he's struggling to get his hands on the pill, and he doesn't need much possession to be damaging.

Bit worried about our other Ed. Starting to look a little cooked across the season. Shouldn't be surprised, considering the work he puts in. Despite that, he motored on and played his part in the last. Wouldn't be surprised if he secretly racked up heaps of possessions while no one was looking, coz that's what he does.

And great to do it for Serge against the filth.

Reward for playing a blinder in VFL last week apparently. Why is it some of our players can dominate at VFL level and go missing at AFL level? Is this common at most football clubs for younger players? Actually there’s an older bluebagger who was a bit the same a few weeks ago (Murphy). I’m mainly thinking of Cottrell, Setters, and going back to the first half of this season and last year Kennedy, Dow, SPS to some extent, Williamson probably others, Fisher occasionally goes missing but generally has been improving.

Do they just need more time and development or is it a confidence thing (maybe both)?

Cottrell needs more time to develop his composure, disposal and consistency. He has endeavor but lacks quality control. He reminds me on young Robertson with less kamikaze. Needs time.

Pros:

Walsh
Barnstorming finish. Harry and Betts were incredible in the final quarter.
Midfield as a whole, against good opposition, especially with Cripps missing.
Stocker and Martin were very good.
Like how Williamson's playing.

Cons:

Outtackled.
Early inaccuracy.
Seemingly outcoached again. The opposition seemed to score far more easily for much of the game.

Need one more... Curnow is good but not for the future and maybe Cripps not the answer but the aura of Cripps demanding attention is a positive. I am sure the coaching team will work this out.

Dow?

Ummm.. No.

Seriously, are you John Barker or lachie obrien????? What is your problem with Dow? C'mon, out with it, because this blind hatred is getting silly. Even you must be able to see how well he played today.

Sorry why would we praise Teague ??

How good did he coach against pies rd 2 , swans , eagles and gws , let’s get grip we played a bottom 4 side and we should of been down by 6
Goals at half time

But Walsh /jsos said don’t worry boys comes with me , and we will get you home

Jsos ruck work in the last qtr cant be underestimated in the centre square plus a huge clearance

Let’s not forget Walshs goal / celebration, Harry’s 4
Goals , betts goal ,jsos mark and stocker hit on michocek at the end !!

He's an excellent coach and we are lucky to have him - consider he has no support structure makes it even more amazing.

So, first you say we won without a decent structure - which is the head coaches job - then you say he is a good coach and we are lucky to have him. If coaching without structure makes a good coach, what makes a bad one?

Pros
Walsh
Kennedy
Silvangi
Weitering
Jones
McKay
Stocker
DeKoning
Fisher

Betts mark that lead to his first goal should be a contender for mark of the year
Not spectacular but freakish to mark a 60 m tumbler like that as he and the ball are about to hit the ground off the charts

Dow to me still unimpressed
I thought Cottrell and Williamson showed more
Martin better
Collingwood were woeful
I still think we a long way off top 4

There were lots of pros - but the biggest one was Collingwood turning it over more than us which was hugely helpful.

Raw data says yes, but we've won the important ones

It's like when we're down 10 or so free kicks in the 4th, opposition has had most of their frees in front of goal and we get a few in the back pocket in the dying minutes to "level things up".

I enjoyed that win as much as anyone.
But we shouldn't let 4 points gloss over the deficiencies in our system and gmae plan.
Collingwood are an ordinary team.
We had some mercurial performances in the second half to get us the win.
But against a top 6 team, it would have been a 19 point loss.
