Is there room for taggers still?

No. Not since the raft of rule changes to remove them from the game.

They can’t fight through blocks. They can’t even put an arm across these days.

It’s a pointless tactic.

Mark O'Connor at Geelong?
Coaches votes in his past 2 games playing as a midfield tagger and easily subduing his highly rated opponents. There's still a critical role for it.
It's the stubborn thought processes of ignorant or closed minded coaches that are the impediment.

Sheesh, whatever happened to naming the team on Thu evenings?

Anyway, kind of similar to last week: a must win game that won’t tell us a whole lot about where we are at if we win but will do if we lose.

We must win this and then perform well against the better teams. Esp those rated 5-12.

I’m also intrigued about giving Dow a tagging role, or at least a super-accountable role, on a prolific midfielder.
This could well teach him more about how to get to the ball more often and with more effect. Could be good...

Many good midfielders have been taught the craft tagging older better players.
A good test for him will be tagging a younger better player.

They are all better players. After 4 years the number 3 or 4 pick (whatever it was) needs a younger player to show him where the ball is ??? Chris Judd was winning Brownlows. Get him to follow Sam Walsh around like a sheep. He will show him where the ball is and even how to use it.

Of our 16 centre clearances last week, Cripps had 7. Hopefully he's up and about again this week.

I've picked Carlton in our office tipping comp. I'd like to think emotion was not part of this decision.

I wonder who might come in if Saad doesn't play? Maybe move Williams to half back and Setterfield on the ball. Cottrell remains on the wing.

I don't think Saad will get up for the game. My bet is Williamson comes back in, as the coaches where happy with his VFL game.

Yes, surely if Saad doesn't play it is the right time to give Stocker the opportunity?
Even if they want to bring him in as a mid, we could shift things around a bit to give him ample opportunity in the mid with a bit of rotation through the back half?

Witts out for the year.

No Rowell or Day.

All other GC rucks injured.

This makes me think, should we play a tall side and play a high possession style game kicking to the talls?
Plus I'd really like to see Dow tagging Anderson, this could be a great match up and provide a lot of answers.

Anderson BOG

..Judd and Walsh are so far above the pack it's not funny.... ..using them as the standard is both unrealistic and unfair....

..also the ongoing issue with our young drafted mids is the lack of experience and protection they get.. ....most teams have had a solid or better midfield core to introduce young players into.. ....ours are expected to slot into the midfield group and share the heavy lifting..

Let’s see what Stocker can do then, or Kennedy if Stocker needs more time

They are saying calf tightness , which would be a impact form the ankle being sore

So why did they bring him back onto the ground??

Surely this is the final year of Andrew complete failure Russell !!

Their half back line is averaging near-enough 30 marks a game.

Maybe a reflection of the pressure they’ve been under, but they’re obviously well structured.

Blues by 26 points.

Play our game on our terms; except - Cottrell can run all day, so stick fat on Anderson if he is on the wing. Get physical with Lukosius as he's not a fan of the close stuff.

Pittonet will not have a better chance to give the boys the type of armchair ride the Eagles onballers get. Don't @#$% it up!

I will be severely frustrated (read gutted) if we lose this one.

Have the potential to physically monster them tbh on every line.

Need to get something out of this game we have Port next week and taking them on with tails up will help. Its high time to take a winners mentality into every match and it starts now.
