As a comparison with another forward - this year - I'll just leave this here......

Not bad for a guy playing a different role!

..it goes without saying that no player is bigger than the club.. ....he's taken the hits, from the very beginning.. ....he's probably not being used as well as he could be this season, but he's doing what he's asked.. ..the club can't demand all those sacrifices of their players, have MM get smashed every game without the protection Every other club would and has provided it's players.. ....and then not recognize and reward that devotion.. ....he has 100% earned the right to reach 300, and I doubt anyone involved with the club over the years would disagree..

Murphy averaging twice as many tackles? Good pick up Surrey.

Yeah good pick up so let’s drop Gibbons instead
I personally think Gibbons needs to tackle more

To be fair can you both give me your view on Murphy pulling out of a contest in the third quarter on the wing and what message that can send to the playing group

Kind of interesting all this
Last year I just scratched my head when Bryce Gibbs was chaired off
One of the softest players to play over 200 games

Wants to go back home fair enough
Then turns up his toes plus flowers up off the field when he has got a head start on most people his age
And he is treated as a hero by us

Some blokes seem to be lauded as greats of the game
Maybe guys like Kreuzer or Simmo didn’t want a big send off

Kreuzer just gave 100% for the club when he stepped out there

Just didn’t sit well with me the Gibbs thing

It’s a cultural scratch your head thing
But it’s symbolic of a club who simply hasn’t got a lot of things right
Perplexing
For those who think he should keep playing what you should do is watch every game this weekend
There is going to be 3 or 4 “final type games” like last nights Swans Essendon** games
And ask yourself would MM seriously have any impact
Because that’s where the club should aim to be
Therefore I just don’t get why he gets a one year contract and keeps getting a game

i hate it when you make sense, Keogh

The point being that his ‘overall’ stats are similar to our other half forwards.

He didn’t pull out. Not sure what you’ve seen.
The opposition player got to the ball first and Murphy tackled the player directly afterwards to kill the contest.

I thought it was a good tackle, I even commented in the game thread

..would people be averse to getting MM to 300 if we played him in a way to maximize his output..?..

....in my opinion, he could deliver more if he was still playing out of the middle.. ....even if he wasn't a starting mid, he'd give more if he spent half his time in the middle.. ....in fact I would play him in there at center bounces, and move him to the outside for around the ground stoppages.. ....I'd also give him license to run forward of play.. ....in this strategy I believe he'd be dangerous and he'd earn the right to reach 300 in this season (even though I believe he has, and I believe denying him that would work against the club)..

Not such a bad idea Big K. For all his faults I still think he's a pretty good centre square player
