I mean, if we get his missus the Alex Fevola Herald Sun package do you reckon it's a goer? You know, the weekly para or two about what shes up to and how her photography book is going? Surely geelong can't keep paying for nadia to take those column inches forever.

I’d rather we play Alex Fevola or Nadia.

We're gifting him games to get there. It's where we are as a club.

Play Murph as the 23rd player

When the game slows down and he comes on he plays with the advantage of being fresh enough to put all that experience into practise.

Plus those games as 23rd player count.
Then on the 300th game play him, carry him on the players' shoulders, the crowd claps and chgeers and then he can help develop our VFL players.

It is embarrassing. Murphy was past it last year.

Carlton winning games of football should be the priority, everything that happens at the club should be about this. We are not a ruthless club anymore.

I reckon you're pretty harsh on him. Okay he isn't playing great but he isn't the worst performer of the opening 2 rounds and I think a couple deserve to be dropped before him, albeit they have youth on their side (eg Williamson, Dow, Setterfield) and there isn't exactly a horde of reserves players knocking the door down to take his role, though Carroll has impressed so far as a mid and as a forward Eddie and Josh Honey are both showing a bit at 2s level. Murphy may need to up his game to hold his spot longer term but I don't think he is first on the chopping block.

I hate this stuff with nothing clubs like North, Dogs and the Saints, who would prioritise a cult of personality around favourite sons rather than the club being the bigger priority.

"Haven't won a flag in forever, but buy a Boomer Harvey commemorative t-shirt / turn up to Bob Murphy's testimonial / wear your Nathan Burke helmet to the game"

Silly thing about it is that those clubs and their supporter bases genuinely love those players, sometimes in lieu of on-field success. Our club either overestimates or conveniently ignores that the majority of its supporter base has a fair degree of apathy towards Marc Murphy as a player.

If you go through Murph's accolades he 100% deserves being in the 300 club for the club.

I think he still has a lot to offer with skills and decision making at half forward.

In modern day footy, you can't afford to carry blokes just because of their skills and decision making. Murph doesn't chase, he isn't quick and he doesn't tackle. I'd rather try and develop a young kid and go through the growing pains of their mistakes than see Murph out there again. Thanks for the 287 games, but I've seen enough.

It's great that Carlton have record membership - and debt down.

I couldn't care less if MM makes it to 300. Club First!

If Carlton want a feel good story, win games of football.

Sorry but this thread is embarrassing. He is a champion of our footy club and key board warriors aren't.

Keyboard warriors who take the time to post on forums like this one, and who keep showing up despite 20 years of mediocrity, are the lifeblood of our club.

No player is bigger than the club. If they aren't performing on field, they shouldn't be on the field.

Kind of interesting all this
Last year I just scratched my head when Bryce Gibbs was chaired off
One of the softest players to play over 200 games

Wants to go back home fair enough
Then turns up his toes plus flowers up off the field when he has got a head start on most people his age
And he is treated as a hero by us

Some blokes seem to be lauded as greats of the game
Maybe guys like Kreuzer or Simmo didn’t want a big send off

Kreuzer just gave 100% for the club when he stepped out there

Just didn’t sit well with me the Gibbs thing

It’s a cultural scratch your head thing
But it’s symbolic of a club who simply hasn’t got a lot of things right
Perplexing
For those who think he should keep playing what you should do is watch every game this weekend
There is going to be 3 or 4 “final type games” like last nights Swans Essendon* games
And ask yourself would MM seriously have any impact
Because that’s where the club should aim to be
Therefore I just don’t get why he gets a one year contract and keeps getting a game
