“Line in the sand” and “breakout game” are terms that are so overused that they have become cliches.

How about we just “improve” this week.

And then “improve” some more the week after.

And again the week after, etc.

I'd drop Setterfield before Dow

But i'd also play Setterfield in the centre before i'd play him on the wing...

Taylor Adams had 19 possessions to half time. He was killing us. Curnow reduced that to 10 after half time.
Whilst getting it 13 times himself after half time. Ed is our only accountable midfielder.
Yet he's consistently thrown up to get dropped. Watch the game. Look at peoples roles.

Ed shouldn't start on a wing either

He should be inside and playing that accountable role for the whole game.

Thought we would have learned from the time we tried to make him a half forward.

Our coaches are hopeless, wasting so much talent in wrong positions constantly.

I wouldn't drop Dow, he showed something in his first year. Very young and can play. We need to get games into him.

No VFL practice game this week, and I can't get behind people picking guys off no practice matches. So the players who played well last week were, according to the coach: (Zac Williams), Jack Carroll, Matthew Kennedy, Matthew Cottrell, Eddie Betts.

Six changes is... a lot... And it still doesn't really address the ruck issue.

IN: Carroll, Kennedy, Cottrell, Betts, McDonald, Silvagni.
OUT: Williamson, Murphy, Setterfield, Casboult, Newnes, SPS.

Plowman - Jones - Saad
Docherty - Weitering - Williams
Cottrell - Curnow - Walsh
Silvagni - McDonald - Fogarty
Betts - McKay - Martin

Pittonet - Cripps - Dow

INT: Gibbons - Kennedy - Carroll - Fisher
SUB: SPS / Murphy

That was three years ago.
He had some nice highlight reel moments but generally I think his first year was a bit overrated by some.

Its a change to the status quo. We all want that today.

Effendrugs* boxed Saad in the back pocket as a lock down defender.
1. A huge waste of an attacking HB
2. It didn't go down well

Curnow Cripps Dow as our midfield, with Cottrell and Walsh on the wings.
We needed to add an experienced player to last years midfield for good reason; Williams was it.
Curnow and Cripps slow. Dow (can't win his own ball) and Cottrell are novices.

I'd love for Carroll to be ready
Newnes is more important than I thought before seeing what he does watching replays of last 2 games.
I wrongly criticised Newnes after the Tigers game, and took it back after I watched the heavy lifting he did whilst others idly watched.

I'm glad to see the need for change.

I must admit, I didn't see what value Curnow's 13 disposals were like after half time.
TBH I didn't think much of Curnow till you mentioned the tagging role.
Adams had 10 disposals after half time. He was still effective.

Sure Ed is accountable. How he is more effective is what I need to answer for myself. I'll have another look tonight after the game.
We need to get past him, but if we can't, it says something about our list, because he's a brawler amongst a team of nice guys at war.
He's not a line breaker, who can run and carry and hit up leads.

I know we need Ed, but I want to get past him, Murphy, Levi and Jones...and Bettsy too, but for Bettsy, I can at least see we have invested for the inevitable handing of the baton ( Fisher, Gibbons, Durdin, Owies...maybe Philp).

Gift games?

He is still young at 21yo. Maybe he needs to develop more before being reintroduced.

We ended up 18th on the ladder in his first year.

Time to be bold and replace Murphy, Curnow, Casboult and Plowman.

Cottrell, Cuningham, Betts and Oscar to come in.

I'll have an odd feeling if we win and the players celebrate like they won a final. Nothing but absolute professionalism from Round 3 to Round 22 fellas.

Play clips of Mason Cox celebrating his cheap free kick goals like he won them the grand final.
See that?! Don't be that guy!
