RICHMOND will be without inspirational captain Trent Cotchin for Thursday night's blockbuster season-opener against Carlton, with the three-time premiership skipper suffering from gastro.

Cotchin has been replaced in the starting Tigers side by dual premiership hero Marlion Pickett, with young onballer Jack Ross named as the first ever 'medical substitute' for the clash.

The Blues have named Oscar McDonald as their medical sub, with the former Demons defender celebrating his 25th birthday by being selected for his club debut having officially made the switch to Ikon Park earlier this month.

Oscars not the right one for a medical sub, if anyone expect a tall is injured we’ll be even slower....

What are the pros for going with a slow tall as the medical sub?

So glad we don't have the 'clash' strip tonight.

Dual + position player.... can play in three positions.

Bam Bam is another one than can play forward or midfield.

Would have between them two.

Spot on imo. The sub should be the most versatile player available. McDonald can play KPF, KPD and pinch hit ruck. Compared to say a Kennedy.
