Good to see Dow play well. He now has to back it up and carry it through to the H&A games.

Who and what didn't impress me?

Pittonet. He kicked 2 goals which was good, but TDK and Levi are better ruckmen imo. Not round 1 worthy imo.
TDK with his leap would have been punching or tapping every centre bounce our way, and there will be more centre bounces with more goals kicked with the new rules.

Oscar played ruck, as did Moore. Moore got injured. Oscar is more KP size. Preferred Moore in the ruck than Pitto.

Having watched the replay I retract my comment above. Wording very ugly.

Pitto is a great back up ruckman and played a serviceable role yesterday. The fact he kicked a couple of goals (something he hasn't done in H&A games) and took a few marks around the ground against Draper (supposedly in red hot form), he had a good 2nd half

I just feel TDK's leap in the centre bounce invaluable for us, and therefore No 1 ruck for me. The fact there the new rules open up the game for more scoring (for more advertising) should result in more centre bounces (yesterday 25), where TDK's advantage can feature, and, a more open game will result in hopefully less ball ups around the ground (which TDK has found tough against the gorillas: but that was last year).

If TDK doesn't come up for round 1, Pitto as first ruck for me with Levi to combine with Harry as one of the two KPF's. Levi can give Pitto the chop out....and Pitto can show us if he can kick goals when forward.

Thought it was a solid hitout for us. A lot of very positive signs. I’m glad we play the Saints next week as we’ll get much more out of tuning up against a good side compared to Essendon* who don’t look like they’ll be even close to the mark this year.

Few takeaways that caught my eye:
- We ran 6-8 guys through the middle on the day and I think we were much better for it. Gave Dow the opportunity to shine. Hope we stick with this structure in the H&A season rather than revert to a core group of 4.
- The lack of a genuine second tall forward option stuck out a bit. JSOS battled on but he’s not a second tall - he’s a third tall that can also pressure on the deck. Our structure will be a lot better when Cas returns as second tall and JSOS or Gov can play as the third tall.
- Dow was fantastic. Only a pre-season game but he’s set the standard and I hope he can go on with it. Another big performance against the Saints and he’ll be looking good for Rd 1.
- Thought Saad and Williams were strong first up. Fogarty also had his moments.
- Cripps looked back to his hulking best and hopefully that can continue.
- We’re lucky we recruited Pitto a year ago. Looked good and he’ll need to be good at least until TDK can return to compete for the ruck spot.
- We look to have put together a reasonable bunch of small and mid type forwards who can all contribute on their day. Fisher, Murphy, Cunners, Martin, Fogarty and Newnes all either player forward permanently or rotated through half forward.

With the team we have, If we get within 3 goals of the Saints, I'll be impressed.

Combination of McKay & Casboult are crucial. If either isn’t playing, then I tend to agree. Otherwise, no excuses.

They have arguably a longer injury list than we do so if this is the case it doesn’t bode well for our prospects this season

Agree. Would like to think we've moved on from using injuries as an excuse at every opportunity.

Saints will be good opposition before the season starts.
They have even greater expectations than Carlton, and fighting for spots.

Teague suggests 22 of the 26 players selected will get most game time tomorrow.
Stocker will miss the senior scrap.

I'm guessing OBrien Gibbons and Moore will not play huge role in this game.

Interesting to see Zac Williams selected on the HBF.

Cripps Dow and Walsh to get first crack at the centre bounce. We'll see.

Lets see how switched on the boys are from the start.
Can they rev up for a praccy game.

Plenty of pressure for spots with Levi, Gov, Betts likely to be available for round 1 in 2 weeks.

Harry & Moore both named for tomorrow’s game despite appearing to suffer injuries last week -

I hope Levi & McGovern aren’t far off from being available because our key forward stock is running very low...

Our forward line is our greatest weakness. Other than Harry, who is regarded as "dangerous"? Harry will get triple teamed so what plans will be we see this afternoon to provide more scoring options?
