I am starting to get really frustrated with the preparation of the squad. Andrew Russell was touted as the best in the business 3 years ago now we are getting more soft tissue injuries than ever. That may not be true but it certainly seems that way. FFS can someone at the club sort this out.
I can't see how Russell is implicated:
Charlie has a knee from an accidental fall outside of footy. Did it in 2019.
Marchbank, has had a serious back problem after his neck fractures caused from gutsy play in 2019.
Tom has a back problem from pushing his young body too hard...call it a fast bowlers initiation to the big time.
Newman snapped his patella tendon round 1 2020, and now there's patella issues. Peripheral player.
Bettsy is recovering from a calf sprain. He's 35yo this year. Same injury as last year.
Levi bruised his knee in a willing intra club game.
Philp no idea....he's a 20yo reserve.
Gov has soft tissue issue with hammie, which follows his history of fitness issues... and overtaken by Jack imo.
4 of them will be right for round 1.
There's 35 players competing for 22 spots in round 1.
From the footage of the match simulation the boys are not going in half hearted. There will be injuries to players in the season proper, as their will be in preseason games whilst they are playing for keeps.
If we play as we train, then there's a positive in all this on the flip side. The boys will be conditioned properly, ready and willing come round 1.
Bring on the 2020 Premiers.
So Russell who is in charge of the fitness program including rehab has nothing to do with any of the injuries?
Russell would be setting programs, workload, rehab pathways, monitoring training. DeKoning is young yes, but my question was about the amount of load he is given. That would be Russell and the monitoring of it is also Russell. Marchbank calf, is that also workload off of restricted training due to 2 years of injury, Philp soft tissue. Eddie Betts soft tissue. Casboult workload on a knee that was a problem? Mitch Mcgovern soft tissue hamstring, is that training workload?
Kemp ankle, Newman, fair enough. They were injuries to either playing or training misshaps
you got me with Marchbank.
Guilty.
1-4 week suspended suspension.
Gotta learn from that. But I have to say...
I'm just glad they're all bustin a gut, and sometimes bones go with that....who could forget Docs knees. Shit does happen at training/ preseason.
Tom DeKoning was a man possessed at the hub and the off season by weights. Obsessed he can compete with the big boys 27yo and above ... after his 2nd preseason. Yeah right!
I'm sure we all believe Russell when he says he had to hold players back from time to time.
Players are obsessive too, more than anyone. They do more than the loads Russell gives them, to get even better.
They can't help it. They are going to get injured.
We've got a very good side without DeKoning, Marchbank, Betts, Gov and Levi, imo.
Maybe Russell's holding them back, because he can.
After all, there's 35 players fighting for 22 spots.
The abovementioned return to the team as the cream, along with Charlie's return later. Salivating.
Maybe Russell is innocent me thinx
