Thought it would be good to have a thread where posters can post ideas on how Carlton can be improved, be it on field or off field, that might be a bit leftfield.

And hoping other posters if they disagree do so in a respectful manner.

Here's one to get the sherrin moving...

Play Doc onball in 2021 and beyond.
It looks like opposition coaches took him out of his comfort zone this year. When he went AA he was often deployed loose at HBF where he managed to get a lot of possessions, provided a lot of quality rebound, and with Simpson marshalled the backline very well. If he isn't going o be as effective in the future in playing that sort of role, then perhaps he should go onball where I would argue we need another quality, experienced player. Imagine having both captains working in tandem in the centre. Yes we would lose his presence and experience down back, but Weitering has developed into a star and we get Newman back next year and SPS finished the year off very well down back. Also Williams may yet play a lot of football across HBF.

I respectfully say this could be in one of about three other threads.

my idea is for the following players to have real hard preseason for example 6 weeks of running /weights/boxing toughen them up . SPS,setters,Gov,cunners,Lob,Williams(gws) because i am sick of watching our players not sticking those tackles therefore leading to goals .

Get Voss as a senior assistant
Get Lyon as a coaching director/mentor
Both followed Carlton when they were young

Invite 100 Carlton members every week to undertake a survey/evaluation (SWOT, PMI, Stop-Start-Keep) of onfield matters
Keep the responses respectful, honest and solution focused
Even if the responses are given 15-30 minutes as an agenda item for the Football Dept to discuss on a weekly basis, it shows that the members are empowered to be part of the solution
If the Footy Dept. decide to follow up on just one item in a year that they would not have thought of, it's a win and a team efffort

Not a bad idea, but if Lyon was coaching director the members evaluations would go straight to the bin

$6.5m cap on footy department spending.

- Play four quarters of football.
- Tackle.
- Run both ways.
- Don't let you or your teammates get pushed around.

Revolutionary.

With all due respect i don't think our Coach would be remotely interested in what we have to say.If he did,he would be the wrong man for the job.

NOT being willing to take input from a variety of sources would make him the Wrong man for the job.

Here's my input:

1. Treat Liam Jones' time in the backline as 'rehabilitation' and whack him up forward again.

2. Braddles being as fit as F_u_K when he 'retired' probably STILL is - bring him BACK!

We'll agree to disagree on that. I didn't suggest that anything had to be taken onboard but maybe, just maybe, an interesting perspective could be fleshed out that nobody had previously thought

With all due respect, I know that I don't need to lighten up...I gave a 'left field' idea and respectfully disagreed with somebody who didn't like the idea

My 2 cents
Everybody knows what I think of our List Management strategies.
Everyone knows that I think the majority of the board is out of touch with modern football and needs replacing
Obviously judging by Williams pending recruitment the club won’t change their List Management procedures
The board would be hard to replace. I assume the Pratt’s and Mathieson families are represented in the board because of money issues which to me is a shame.
We are still paying for the financial fuckups of the past

One thing that can change is the culture of the playing list
Assuming we have a better and fully fledged reserves affiliated competition I would like Teague to reward senior spots on effort.

We won’t go anywhere if blokes continue to get games despite weak efforts
They arnt gifted games based on salary, number of games played or reputation

It’s being going on for so long and is a noose around the club’s neck in a cultural aspect

Pointless naming players
You know who I mean.

Case in point
Cottrell should not have been dropped after the Swans game.
Not because he kicked the winning goal. He drop the previous mark but it didn’t discourage him. He took a courageous mark and showed a bit of mongrel
We are mentally weak. We give games to soft players.
Teague needs to reward effort and fix this cancer once and for all.

Cotrell was woeful in that game apart from taking that one mark and goal.
If we are going to reward games based on one act we will never go anywhere.

I've got an idea.
How about we play Fisher through the midfield.
What about playing SPS as a high HF.
And maybe we put Dow in the guts to see what he can do.
