Cottrell was woeful in that game apart from taking that one mark and goal.
If we are going to reward games based on one act we will never go anywhere.

Agreed.
He had to be dropped. Rest of his game Was shit.

Displayed none of the Robbo-style ranga hardness we were expecting after his previous effort.

Left-field idea:

Swap the forward and backlines in the first quarter against Richmond, see how it goes....

What's the worst thing that could happen?

- they kick 5 unanswered goals???

Yawn......

TBH, I thought it showed toughness to drop Cottrell after he played a bad game but had an emotionally uplifting moment.

I would love to know which players we should recruit, if not someone like Zak Williams?
It seems to me that every person we draft or recruit is the wrong option according to this site; and that often the wonderful solution to all our problems is some VFL player either barely making the grade in our reserves team or in some other VFL-level team...

I realy liked Cottrell's mongrel, and Honey looked a nice player the 3 times he touched the ball. I'm happy to give them a go but these guys are not the answer.
And seriously, people here argue to bring one of these guys in instead of Murphy!! Seriously???
And while I'm at it, Polson never responds to the opportunities he is given.

I want tough players as much as anyone but that is not the only criteria required for a strong team.
I struggle to think of a single player in any team who would survive on this site. Selwood who ducks for free kicks? Martin who basically doesn't tackle?

So, please, who do you think would add to our list that is gettable?

I would have loved Papley and, yes, we stuffed up that opportunity. But if Williams can play in the midfield anything like he did in last year's prelim, we are on a winner.

We did get Martin who I think is close to the best recruit of any team this season.
We improved 6 places on the ladder and were a couple of kicks (and a fair amount of consistency and intensity) away from finals.

Why all the negativity?? Yes, it was disappointing that we didn't capitalise on the promise we showed. But, hey, it was awesome that we showed such promise at times.
How many of you actually thought, when the year began, that we should be playing finals this year?

In terms of left field ideas, I like the suggestions from Donstuie above...

He needs to show a willingness to chase, tackle and generally demonstrate a hunger for the contest before he gets given another chance in the middle.

My favorite subject ........... most of the 'club apologists or even new age posters' won't like these but since when have I cared.

Off field
1. Get a home ground advantage to help us compete with interstate teams (off field and on field) and play interstate teams there - PP as 50k stadium is ideal.
2. 1 will add more dollars via ground sponsorship, membership sales, hospitality, etc.
3. 1 should also get us out of Marvel and at the MCG for all other games. Better surfaces and hence protect our players and kids bodies
4. Need to get a Neil Balme into our club to set a few straight. My suggestion - GET SOS back as Football Director/Manager.
5. Keep building our outside of football revenue. Investing in commercial property. Starting up CFC businesses, etc. If it means more pokies, so be it. I want this club to be a powerhouse financially again.
6. Remove the white away strip.

On field
1. Get our culture of winning at all costs back. Close enough isn't good enough - good luck with this one!!!!
2. Develop a game plan that helps us compete 1 v 1. Every time we play a man behind the ball - we get annihilated. We need to not allow the loose man back. Man them up.
3. Play our KP forwards deep and forget the small out of the square.
4. Rotate our midfielders with youth and a balance of inside, outside, pace and spread.
5. Bring back the boxing ring and get our guys to become more physical.
6. Get the best assistant coaches available. Replace current group and start a fresh. Add a tackling coach.
7. Get a phycologist that knows what they are doing and get's these guys minds right from day one of the year!!!
8. Get our own VFL team up and running. If there is one good thing COVID did, this might be the one.

How about we play Fisher through the midfield.
What about playing SPS as a high HF.

THAT'S CRAZY TALK!!

probably the most left field suggestion of all when compared to what has been happening.

Would certainly increase our tackle count.

Huh?

Huh?

Am I right?

Make the entire team wear long sleeved jumpers to instill the old fashioned character of our historic winning teams of the past. It would build Carlton character.

Man that's pretty loose, actually playing players in the position they were drafted for. :banghead:
I mean, that's coaching genius right there.
Teague will be talked about for millennia.
We just need to wait for a mentor to guide him to this kind of genius thinking. :screwy:

We'll agree to disagree on that. I didn't suggest that anything had to be taken onboard but maybe, just maybe, an interesting perspective could be fleshed out that nobody had previously thought

There’s something to be said for fan engagement and togetherness, but how much worth would you place on 100 submissions from the public on how to do your job better?

I don't know...it was just an idea (and in my opinion, one worth pursuing)

PS. If we start from the position of, "how to do your job better", its a failure and not what I intended.

Depending on how you framed the questions/categories, it really is just members' perspectives. Responses could even be graphically respresented/likert scale whatever.

Any inappropriate response (if there is a comment are) is automatically cancelled

Nothing wrong with leaders asking their backyard be viewed with a fresh set of eyes and from a variety of stakeholders
