I love a mongrel.
I miss mongrel.
So underrated, just as were footballers when athletes were more important.
Furthermore, the talent pool has been diluted by extra teams GWS and GCS.
Those 2 combined and the mongrels are gone.
I used to look at Vin Waite and John Nichols in awe.
Then there was quiet achievers with heaps of mongrel like Towns and Mangels.
I could go on.
Modern times Hodge, Wines, Selwood...they're all sniping pricks.
We haven't got any.
Willo always threatens to be, but not proactively hard.
Willo just needs to get through this year unscathed.
I think he is still worried his body will give way and it's holding him backHopefully, the medicos and specialists keep checking on his previous injuries and are reassuring him the worst is behind him
When he begins to trust his body more, the grit and white line fever will return
If you had told me 6 months ago he'd play most of the season, I would not have believed it
I can see something is holding him back too.
He doesn't show any fear when he wants to attack and break lines.
Its his decision making I see as the problem. He's running into trouble too much, but I guess he will learn about his limitations.
Maybe its like frank suggests, he will be good after 50 games. He is still young and raw.
Paul Bower was a pick 20 or something around that. He played nearly 100 games. Because we were desperate to develop the young, let alone the cupboard being bare, he too was gifted games. He ran into trouble a lot, and continued to do so when he passed 50 games. I hope Willo doesn't do that.
We all live in hope.
