If the Collingwood was the typical game we’d lose, then GWS is the typical game we’d win. It’s like losing to Melbourne and then getting the cats in Geelong. Can’t see how but turning it on this week seems like something we’d do

The game will be about structure, not so much personnel.
Collingwood set a bit of a blueprint on how to play us, as much as Hawthorn did a few weeks ago. Hawthorn slowed us down, zoned 60 metres around our ball carrier and took away that 20 metre chip kick we've used to break up the opposition. Collingwood took it a step further by pushing their winger onto the defensive side of the stoppages and feeding the ball consistently back to him. Too often they then fed it to a backman running off our forwards through the corridor or hit up an easy 20 metre kick. It will only work if they win the stoppages around the ground (which they did) and our coaches have to let them get away with it for 4 quarters which they did. What a frustration that was to watch. It was like Groundhog Day.
We can't play Pittonet as a resting ruckman in the forward line. It's either ruck or bench. I'd make the decision on TDK or Harry but I wouldn't play both.
Whichever one goes out, I'd replace him with McGovern if he's ready or Kennedy. It's interesting that others rated Gibbons' game. I thought his ball use was terrible and he had no accountability for his opponent when the ball was in Collingwood hands. I'd consider swapping him for SPS.

GWS have pumped our mids on the defensive transition in the past. Thankfully Kelly wont be lacing out their forwards with zero pressure like he has in the past but they still have a strong midfield without him. Pittonet has to have a big game and dismantle Mumford. Cameron has been down but I'd be very wary of him. Weitering has to play on him IMHO.

I reckon we win this provided we bring 4 quarters
Play better at Metricon than Gabba -bigger ground
Will hopefully be smarting from Sunday
They usually get hold of us in the middle midfield must hit back and rotate Fisher Martin et al through middle
Of course might have egg on my face late Thursday evening

Reading between the lines with the injury update, we will see our midfield without Cripps this week.

According to the injury report, Cripps has a sore knee and is a test, and Weitering has a sore calf and is also a test. Marchbank is still some weeks away and McGovern is ready to go if picked.

Given the short turn-around, would it make sense to save Weitering and Cripps?

Great to see some September action this week.

Been a long time coming.

Traditionally we do well in September. Must be improved if we’re playing in September.

I hope we do surprisingly well.

Love it

Has he the tank to do that?

Reckon he's got the tank, but not the speed.

That's easy. They are selfish footballers who play for themselves and not the team. If people think our midfield doesn't run 2 ways, then they should look at these guys.

ps. now that I said that - they will wallop us this week with their defensive running.

Bad week for Pittonet to be nearly out of gas. Kreuz not ready yet and TDK likely to get smashed by Mumford. The club will know if Pittonet has enough in the tank to front up tomorrow and put in a decent effort - if so he stays. In that case TDK probably gets the rest for McG - McKay has been showing a bit just not putting it together and poses a greater threat up forward and with Casboult available to relieve in the ruck we can get away with the one ruckman. Kennedy in for Cripps if he doesn't get up off the short break and the sore knee. Swap some fresher legs in for more run - who goes out and how many depends on who is struggling to be right on the back of the short turnaround. Older guys and guys covering more ground are most at risk. In terms of which runners come in SPS and Cottrell were said to be managed suggesting they are first in line, then its probably Cunners at the head of the queue but the reserves report was quite bullish about Lang's game as well as having some nice things to say about LOB. Speaking of bullish news from the 2s they were quite complimentary about Macreadie and I wonder whether he is a chance to come in if any of the tall defenders need a rest, whether it be this week or later before Marchbank is ready to return (if he gets there at all this year).

To my mind selection is pretty much all about who is physically up for a game so soon and who isn't and that is hard to judge from the outside.

Didn't he just come back into the side after a week off?

Knocked off Ed in the 3km time trial IIRC and looks quick enough.
Hook him up for 1 hour Video conference with Jed Lamb for inspirational tips prior to the game.
