I was really pleased with it, won 4 quarters & skills were pretty clean.

It was good to see TDK clunk a few marks tonight. Will do his confidence a world of good. What about his pick up and swoop early in the game, that would have been a great goal. He will tear the comp apart in the coming years.
Imagine harry, Charlie, TDK resting forward all mobile athletic fast big men.

Bit of a training run but still lots of encouraging signs. Good to see Murphy bounce back strongly.

Newnes might’ve gotten some confidence after that goal last week, I thought tonight was his best game for us by a mile. Gibbons and Martin were very good too.

Walsh was great, McKay’s marking and work rate was too.

Most of the back line got to take the night off, I thought Jones was very good though and Docherty was good too.

Another tick for Setterfield in what has been a breakout season. Ed was good again.

Some more encouraging signs from TDK, he’s coming along well. Another game at the top level for Cottrell which will be great for his development.

I really hope SPS can find his kicking boots soon, the rest of his game seems ok but his turnovers out of defence have been killing us lately.

Pros:

Dominant team performance.
Harry was my best, with Weiters not far behind.
I reckon Cripps best game since round 1.
Murphy, Plowman, Gibbons, Newnes.
Thought our 2 rucks did a terrific job against Witts. I wonder if De Koning is any chance of getting a RS nomination?
Willo was terrific in his one-on-ones.

Cons:

Inaccuracy. Should have been a 10 goal + margin.
Not much else.

Very good performance in pretty much every facet but the goalkicking. A complete statistical domination and the Suns have been competitive all year long.
Midfielders were dominant - Murph, Cripps, Martin, Walsh, Setters and Ed all big ticks
Backline rock solid. Weitering phenomenal. Plow, Jones, Simmo and Doc all won their positions. Thought Willo was very good hitting the ball at pace and used his big left foot to advantage.
Forwards good but couldn’t convert. H very clean marking in tough conditions should have kicked 5. Gibbo back to some form. Newnes rock solid. Fisher should always be in this team.
Thought TDK again showed a bit - we need to persist with him.
6-6 and in the mix for finals. Bring on the Pies

spot on summary!

From where we have come from and what was at stake, rapt to get a comfortable win.

Could of been a shellacking but will gladly take the 4 points and move on.

Great all round team performance. Murph, Martin & Weiters fantastic.

So happy to win on a Friday night and enjoy the rest of the footy on the weekend anxiety free.

I think back to a year ago, when Walsh was clearly our second best player behind Cripps, and then not much else.
A year on, and there are four or five players right up there.
I suspect Weitering is leading our B&F at this stage with Martin not far behind.
And clear improvement from quite a few others - esp the fringe group, incl Setterfield, Cunningham, Kennedy, Gibbons, Harry and I think SPS has been better too, alhough a couple of quieter games lately.
Add in some promising younger players, together with the proven ones. Not to mention our new recruit Docherty!
And then Charlie to come back next year, hopefully raring to go.

We’re in a much better place now.
I am happy with that and while it would be awesome to make finals, I’m frankly happy for us to keep growing and learning - whether from a narrow loss, the impact of dropping our concentration or intensity for a few mins or from kicking poorly.
Then, next year, we really make our move!

We were great defensively again

Our tackling has improved out of sight

What a strange thing it is to win a Friday night game.

lovely to win on Friday and then just relax. Total dominance although GC coming off consecutive 4 day breaks and then playing in the heat - a pretty tough ask.
Two big areas of improvement were:
1. Best delivery to forwards for a while - lots of lead up marking
2. Best whole ground defense.

Was last night the first time anyone has mentioned publicly that Weiters should be AA this year?

We are maturing and we have a taste for it
Our backs are playing with more cohesion
The mids still need more work but with Setters, Gibbo, Martin et al helping Cripps and Curnow, we are covering the deficiencies for the moment
Fwd transition still needs work...our fwd line always looks crowded
Can see Walsh, Cottrell, OBrien Martin absolutely owning the wings in the future
TDK was an inspired selection by SOS

The deeper we go this year, the hungrier and more motivated those injured/out of form become for FOMO on the fun

Could be a bumper trade period with more FAs interested in joining the party

PS. What odds would you have given 3 weeks ago that we beat Freo and GC in successive weeks? See my first line....sums it all up in 10 words

Good morning all.
A good but frustrating win last night. Like many of you have already said we should have won by 60-70 points.
Happy to win on a Friday night and get to sit back and relax for the rest of the weekend, haven't done that for a while.
Conditions were tough so it was never going to be a highly skilled game, will be interesting to see what the game tonight is like.
McKay was sensational and it was a shame he didn't kick straight, although he wasn't alone there.
I don't think we got any injuries so the players now have 9 days to recover.
Martin is a very good player, thanks Gold Coast for the gift.

Frustrating point kicking but the upside is they shouldn't get ahead of themselves. In the recent past one good or big win has meant they didn't tune in properly for the next game.
So in the bigger picture, this is ok.
For those in the match thread worrying this game will cost us finals on percentage: no, the Norf game is the one. We should have flogged them. And then there was the Hawks...

I had a real sense watching Walsh of him wanting to lift the team and he took responsibility.
It was the most he had looked like a leader since he started. (Obviously Mooney didn't notice, saying H would be our next captain!)

ABC annointed Weiters for the role after showing he could string more than two words together during their after-game interview.

Nice tip deano, on the money. That said, your goalkicker predictions were a bit off
