Solid 7.5

Getting Oliver/Wines would have been a 10.

Got his targets. Zac Williams, Adam Saad and a good youngster in Fogarty. We've lost no one we wanted to keep, we have a second round pick to use and we all keep next years selections.
Good work so far but I suspect there may still be a bit to play out.

Yeah I’ve been wondering why he didn’t leave today’s deals until tomorrow.

That's a fail for the Saad deal.

Paid too much for an out of contract 26yo.

Getting Saad. is nothing less than brilliant. I would have paid Pick 8 if he was offered to us last year whilst in contract.

From what was said today by his manager, Saad was out of contract and decided to leave Effendopes*, something happened. There was an exodus of Effendcheats* players.

Saad met with Teague.

Teague then showed Saad how he would fit in his game plan. Saad was sold on Carlton.

Nick Austin comes into the frame and a contract offer is agreed to.

Saad nominates Carlton as his preferred Team.

Effendrug* clips Saad over the ear on his way out via media.

Saad is never going back.

Dodoro requests McKay Curnow Walsh.

Saad makes it clear he will go to Carlton via PSD.

Effendopes* want Pick 8 for out of contract player who threatens to go to Carlton via PSD.

Market agrees Saad worth between 15 and 22.

The rest is up to Nick Austin to get Carlton the best deal.

Giving Pick 8 to our biggest enemy should never be part of the deal.
We don't owe them anything. PSD or whatever we say to make the deal fair.

A late first would be generous.

That's me.

Some accepted Pick 8 with their 2nd (2020 or 2021) coming back.

On the surface, Pick 8 with effectively a 3rd round back is not a good deal in this situation.

There must be a reason why he did that deal. No doubt Dodoro got what he wanted.

Did Nick blink? Looks like it.

Was he instructed by Liddle, The Board, the AFL, not to go to the PSD?

I'm glad we got Saad and Williams. That's a win.

Because if he didn't do the deal when he did Gerard Wheatley honestly might've had a mental breakdown and labelled us a 'draconian football club and a manifestation of everything that is wrong with the trade period.'

Or something equally as moronic and dramatic.

Probably get a few bigger words in there I reckon. Malignant. Malaise.

Pick 8 may seem high, but if there was 1 thing we needed in this draft is SPEED and we get Saad, Williams and Fogarty for essentially pick 8 and a slip down in the second round.

This improves the list immeasurably better than using pick 8, which will end up outside the top 10 due to compromised draft for a skinny 18yo.

My view around list management is just that LIST MANAGEMENT not pick management.

So based on the list as its sits now I will give the trades a 7/10 - better than average, but no rabbit out of a hat.

I'll happily recant any and all of my criticism if giving up so much this year means we're welcoming Oliver or Merrett next year.

Edit: Or if he makes this happen...

Its finally happening.

Marketing Dept are hilarious.
Great sense of humour.
Obviously everyone knows Carlton have both feet out of the Dark Times Room.

Blue Skies ... there is another Big Fish expected next year, to add to our Premiership team, as we aim for Back 2 Back Flags.

Would have thought the key measure of success is building amd retaining a list that is capable of sustained success.

On that measure he has won in my books.

The conversation on whether he negotiated well is interesting and really a sideshow.

I'm no genius but I just get the feeling that Ian Coutts isn't in charge of media anymore...
