The vision of Rutten smirking away in the coaches box after the 50m penalty and mark to Townsend also made the win sweeter.

Apart from that last touched behind, we kept Ess from any score for the last 13 min of the game

Philp was nervous and fumbly, but that pick up in defence, in the last quarter was sublime...

Mr Plow is usually pretty solid but had a shit one.

Loved Cuningham's game. Levi huge but out of batteries in the last.

Good win being a man down and with Cripps being held.

He did some pretty important stuff on a flat battery then.
He did, but the big lug was down to one effort per contest

Maybe so, but if one of those efforts is a clutch goal and the other is a clutch mark then I'm taking an out of battery Casboult over the two cats Parish and Merrett every day of the week (both statless in the last quarter  )

Roundarm fist to the ribs is a "tackle"?

Spare me.

No, it was a cheap shot. But it doesn't matter, because it's Essendon*, Merrett will now be seen as the victim.
FFS.

This clown has form for little cheap shots. Got a week for punching Plowman in the midriff during a break in play while Plowman was just standing there minding his own business and pulled Natanui by the hair over the boundary line in Perth which resulted in Natanui being as angry as I've ever seen him on a footy field. He fits in perfectly at Essendon*. Take the L Merrett, I hope your absence costs your shitstain of a club a win this week against the Pies.

He threw a punch. Can't tackle with a clenched fist and certainty wasn't going to punch the ball from his position!!!
He is lucky he only received a week, compared to the injury, but either way - he threw a punch!

He intentionally whacked JSOS in the ribs causing a fracture.
Only 1 week is a joke.

stupid article ... but we have been bad for so long, we wont get the credit due for victories like this.

if you read the reports, you would think Essendon* had the worst game of their life, and it was all their own doing .... rather than we didnt allow them to play ... we are building the reputation and the respect will come with it.

We still need to get better, no better example than some of shots for goal, it cost us against melbourne, and it nearly cost us against Essendon*.

We get that aspect of our game sorted, and tidy up our midfield with another big body, we are moving forward very quickly.

Until, we do that consistently, we have to deal with these bullshit articles.

Tackiling = grabbing

HTF can you grab anybody with a clenched fist?

Maybe all the neanderthal commentators out there can show us the 100s of examples that occur every game...a flush punch to the rib cage when you're not in the contest

These same mental deficients would have no qualms with a jumper punch that does no damage because it's not a good look for the game...apparently, sending someone to hospital is a good promo for how tough AFL is

Zac Merrett...you are a weak sniping coward.

In regards to the Betts 50 - a similar thing happened in the Brisbane v. Crows game yesterday, where a Lions player lingered next to the square and the Crows player on the mark was caught in two minds as to who to mark - the lingering Lion or the one taking the kick in. The umpire blew the whistle, waved the extra Lions player away and re-set the mark. A much more sensible approach to the situation than blowing a cheap 50 metre penalty.
