Makey uppey is back...

Quote:
Contact training sessions will still be permitted in smaller groups (up to nine players), however for the next four weeks no contact sessions will be permitted for training sessions groups of more than nine players. This allows Clubs to conduct full ground ball movement training, however without contact.

The AFL has rules in place which say if they have 22 and 4 emergencies, they have to play us.
However, the Essendon* CEO is saying he expects common sense to prevail.
They already have one postponed match that affects Melbourne. If they postpone ours, that's two and then a third for the following week. Three clubs affected because of no fault of their own. The only common sense outcome is to minimise the disruption across the comp by inconveniencing the team concerned and letting the others get on with it.
The big problem is that we are the other team nex week. We also know Gil intervened to stop Coniglio coming to us and that he wants a strong Essendon*. I can see him breaking his own rules 'just this once'. If it were Collingwood or worse, an interstate club in a hub, there would be no question of even discussing it.
It will probably happen to another club before the season is over. The extra weeks were in the event the entire round had to be postponed, not to cobble together some sort of patchwork round where Essendon* plays four times in a week or five times in two weeks and the other teams that postponed have to play three times in quick succession to pander to them.
This needs ruthless decision making by the AFL with strict adherence to their stated rules, not some one off decision in case this is the only example.

The following is an extract from the AFL website.

The AFL has so far indicated that Essendon* will have to face the Blues this weekend if they have 22 players, plus four emergencies, available to play.

Campbell said more information was required before any such decision was made.

The Bombers submitted "an enormous amount of detail and data" to the Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday night, and Campbell expects to hear back by Tuesday on which players are affected.

THE LADDER Where is your team sitting?

All Essendon* footballers and staff registered with the AFL for training and game purposes will also be tested again on Monday.

"I'd expect common sense would (prevail)," Campbell told Triple M radio.

Some clubs have up to 10 injured players at a time and have to field the best team available.
It is just how it is.

Here comes the makey uppey:

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said on Sunday the advice would be to “quarantine all of those identified close contacts for two weeks from the time of exposure”.

But the AFL appears ready to challenge exactly what constitutes close contact.

Why don’t they just postpone the whole season for this mob? :banghead: :banghead:

It should be easy.

If they can field a team, they play. If they can't, they forfeit.

But the AFL will make a decision based on makey uppey.

It will be incredibly helpful to Essendon*.
Incredibly unhelpful to Carlton and all the other teams in the comp.

Anything else or sensible will be a surprise.

If they cannot field a side due to one of their own players transgression then they should have to forfeit.
If that was the case they would most likely have to forfeit against Melbourne, Carlton and Collingwood.

That should have been the case when they had most of their players suspended for doping. But instead the AFL allowed them to list a bunch of state league players (some fresh out of the AFL) and the TPP space to do it.

The cheats won’t be made to forfeit anything.

Don’t forget a bonus Number One Draft Pick.

What about only conner is absent, the rest are given the ok because they have tested negative and they play us with almost a full team with the added bonus of fresh legs as they rested for a week.

If the AFL had taken my suggestion years ago of banning the cheats until they came clean on the drug issue we would not be worrying about this now.

This is what will happen.....
I'd be stunned if it is anything else

They should be made to play Melbourne on Wednesday night and then delay our game until Sunday if they go down that path of only Connor out.

I like this.
Or they just have to forfeit as we won't know if it has spread for up to 10 days and they give us the 4pts and 10% to our margin.
Next.

Wouldn't this penalise Melbourne?

A little bit as they would cop a 5 day break to Sunday as well (their next game should be Sunday as well if it isn’t already)

More I think about this the more I think this should happen even if Essendon* have to rest the 8 players or more so Melbourne get them short handed rather than at the end of the year when Essendon* are back to full strength.

Robbo and Whately talking about this igame as if only Essendon* gets affected.
While Gerard says if the pod goes, they should play but Robbo not in agreement.
Essendon* is disadvantaged, seems to be the theme but nobody has mentioned how Melbourne, Carlton and Collingwood will be disadvantaged if they postpone these games. Why should they have to play tree games in a week just ecause ssendon will be inconvenienced if they have to play with a reduced ist.

Nobodyhas asked what will happen if Carlton, Collingwood or Melbourne has a positive test in the meantime and has another three postponed games. What if Carlton AND Collingwood gave players test positive after the Essendon* game? How many potponed games can be catered for?

O'Connor was shooting snot and spittle on his hands, wiping his nose and then handling the balls, which then got handled by 7 other players. All on video. That pod has to be isolated. A negative test might be a false negative because of the incubation period of the virus.

The AFL told all the clubs to be careful how they planned who was in what pod and Essendon* (and Carlton) decided to put their eggs in the wrong basket. It could just as easily have been us. But it isn't.

Just get on with it as per the original protocols signed off by the clubs. Too late to complain now.
