Too many unknowns- will it be 2018 Melbourne or 2019 Melbourne? They have a potentially terrific midfield and if we can't nullify their quick breaks from the middle our backline will be under pressure. Which Carlton? Our round 1 first half or second half team? We have as good a line up as we can reasonably expect and vision of our training looked more intense than Melbourne's (although maybe that was just the backing track). If we can win in the middle or at least draw, we should be the better outfit.

Its not a young team compared to Melbourne.

The baby in the team is 20yo Walsh and he plays like he's been around for years. Next is 22yo SPS and Setterfield

We are not young anymore. Its time to deliver. No excuses.

We have added to the team in 2020:

27yo Docherty
27yo Newnes
25yo Martin
24yo Pittenet
34yo Betts

We have our Captain and Warrior Cripps back for this one, and Harry. Nuff said.

Carlton
IN: Pittonet, Cripps, Martin, Betts, Newnes, Docherty, Mckay, Cuningham
OUT: Kreuzer, Dow, Fisher, Thomas, Marchbank, O’Brien, Kennedy, Silvagni

Melbourne
IN: Gawn, Pickett, Jackson, Langdon, Tomlinson, Rivers, Bennell, Smith, Jetta, Lever,
OUT: Lewis, Weideman, Neal-Bullen, Hibberd, Frost, Petty, Preuss, Dunkley, Hore, Lockhart

Of all the outs Silvagni played his best game against Dees last year, so he will be missed. Otherwise we are a bigger and better team than last year (on paper)

So do I give in to the expectation of the usual match losing lapses with poor disposal and decision making and mental fragility or do I trust and have faith in the positive words of Andrew Russell and expect to beat the deeees...?

Tigers had a lapse in the 1st quarter: DRAW
Hawks had a lapse in the 2nd half: LOST.

Lapses lose matches.
All teams have shown plenty of mistakes.

I don't worry about mistakes as long as we are all giving full intensity and no mental lapses.
If we do, Melbourne will be the first to show a lapse.

Yes, I think bringing Lang in for SOJ adds pace, then again, chances are if I came in we would have added pace.

Lang has shown glimpses (3 tackles aside), but generally
-Goes missing for huge parts if the game
-is broken through in tackles like butter
-Misses crucial kicks when required

I think LOB and Willo both have shown more and deserve it more....

If Lang HAS been "training the house down", then so has Philp....

I hope you are right BV.... I hope he proves me wrong, but I was already at the point last year when I would have shivers every time he was picked.... and he didn't prove me wrong then

Ps.

Can you tell I'm sick of 'pacey' ex Geelong mid sized types who can't play in the middle.....
