Agree.

I want to know why the Commission / Executives in the AFL are only looking at a 20% pay cut.

Everyone should be on a minimum wage, and maybe age a consideration.

Gil told Damien Barrett on a live interview he is taking the same pay cut as the players so if he is doing it, I imagine everybody else is as well.
It would have removed a major stumbling block in any negotiations.

Unless the Fed/State Govts withdraw the funding I'd expect it to go full steam ahead and get people working again.

If the womens competition gets axed (I suspect it will) then I doubt the development will go ahead.

Fair enough.

It is not what Gil originally said.

Initial, perhaps throw away figure, he and his Executive would sacrifice 20%.
In fairness, things have changed a lot since then.

Correct. He originally said 20%
I suspect his change of heart was brought on by the AFLPA exec.

The women's comp wont get axed.

Has been the biggest joke for a while

I have little faith in the club getting through this crisis and thriving on the other side

Finally someone with a good proposal

Cut out spending millions on The Gold Coast.

Carlton’s “equalisation” budget is effectively $10 million less than Brisbane’s and God know how much less than Gold Coast’s. $20 mill? $30 mill once all other goodies are considered.

Carlton is not a piggy bank with an endless supply of coins. Eventually the coins will run out and then whose piggy bank will they raid? Collingwood’s .. ?

Lyon’s point here is accurate. Foundation clubs have to come first. In 20-30 years time they may well want to revisit Gold Coast, but stop bleeding my club dry.

You're right - I read an article where Gill has confirmed the womens comp will definitely remain.

According to some reports over the last week, the AFL has told clubs to expect to operate next season with playing lists of 35 and down to 30 by season 2022.

On my count, we’ve got 46 currently on the list (including all rookies) so a lot will unfortunately go at the end of the season if the reports are true.

A lot of flow on effects for drafting (might be the end of taking 3+ kids in the draft - maybe clubs only take 1-2 18 year olds and then look more at mature state league talent) and trading (may be a lot less movement of fringe players).

Suspect we see a lot less drafted and more kids playing state league footy before getting onto an afl list.

"The Magpies are unequivocally a powerhouse and have approximately $17 million in a future fund specifically for situations like this. The club boasted a profit of just under $4 million last year."

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/rating ... 8b8ba30f88

How about the AFL raid Collingwood's future fund instead of giving Gold Coast and Brisbane 10-15$ million more in distribution funds more than Carlton? Doesn't that give those clubs an unfair advantage over a team that hasn't played a preliminary final since 2001?

Carlton has been terrible on the field for the last 15 years...but still we receive less than the Bulldogs for instance, St Kilda, North Melbourne - and even the Swans....a team that has been in every finals series basically for the last 20 years.

How about Carlton gets the same "distribution funding" as the Gold Coast or Brisbane or the Bulldogs/North Melbourne and the shortfall is made up by raiding Collingwood's future fund? They have 17$ million in the bank.

Why does Carlton have to foot the bill of the AFL's experiment in the Gold Coast? Collingwood has the money to fund it - go to them. That's how socialism works right, eventually you have to go to the profitable outlets and take from them. Start at Collingwood.

2018 -
Gold Coast – $23,696,768
Brisbane – $23,609,188
GWS – $23,234,214
St Kilda – $20,539,315
Port Adelaide – $19,805,849 (includes match day and merch)
North Melbourne – $16,918,003
Melbourne – $16,336,739
Western Bulldogs – $16,271,119
Sydney – $14,886,155
Carlton – $14,149,443
Adelaide -$12,676,532
Richmond – $12,505,575
Essendon* – $12,079,819
Geelong – $11,841,169
Fremantle – $11,469,122
Collingwood – $11,424,087
Hawthorn – $11,156,622
West Coast – $11,002,504

If lists go down to 30, I'd say those who are cut will get picked up by our VFL side on much lower semi-professional VFL pay rates/conditions.

Our bottom 6 has been shit for years. We'll finally get to shed them.

Maybe it's time to cut down on the number of players on field. Move from 18 to 16. Would certainly help free up the game

Let's name them. I'll start not in "shitness" order:

1. Polson
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

I can’t see how any rational person or organisation could cut a playing list to 30, even 35, when you are expected to have field 22 every week for 7 months and even secondary side. This is the AFL though and it seems every conceivable idiotic idea is now the perfect time to execute. :banghead:
