For the first time watched the game in full.
We controlled the game for about 35% of the time.
Collingwood completely dominated the first half for all but 5 minutes
of the second quarter.
If you count all the shots out on the full they should have been 12 goals up at half time.
They controlled about 40% of the second half as well.
It was only a 10 minute stretch in the third quarter where we went ballistic kicking 7 straight that all of a sudden had us almost level.
A simply amazing result in the most iconic moment in the club’s history.

I will never forget listening to the game.
I was only young and it was only on radio.
The replay was played later that night.
Imagine having to wait that long these days to watch the game.

I was there too. I still call it the most special day in my life other than the births of 3 kids.

As usual I was there. Standing on beer tins as a kid when they were still made of steel.

Down the Punt Rd end behind the goals when you know who came on and kicked all those goals.

I was listening on the radio in Tassie and turned it off at half time.
Turned it on after the game out of curiosity to see how much we had lost by.

It was the last time I have not listened to or watched a whole game, including the debacles of the last twenty odd years.

My older brother was at the ground and left in disgust at half time.

No one has mentioned Jezza's swoop on the ball in the last quarter near the centre and on his left foot let fly, bouncing, bouncing, bouncing, goal ! Game over.

Was there and was directly behind the above kick by Jezza which seemed to just bounce forever and I nearly fainted with excitement when it went through. A game that will never be forgotten

I was 17 at the time and was listening on the radio. Was devastated at half time and went for a run, got home about 20 mins into the 3rd quarter and heard the rest of the game. Watched the full replay that night on RVN2 Wagga. Will never forget that day.

My, (late), father was there and standing in amongst a nest of magpie supporters. Reckoned they were most jovial and friendly at half time. Slaps on the back, "never mind mate, it's only a game of footy" ...

Needless to say the mood of the area changed somewhat as the game progressed in the second half.

I was 10 years old and in the 2nd level of the Western stand behind the goals. I was almost in tears at half-time but when the attendant at the top of the stairs saw my Carlton scarf and said "you may as well go home now" I responded with a brutal 10 year old "oh yeah". Anyway the 3rd quarter blitz happened and when we hit the front the attendant was nowhere to be seen. My lasting memory of the game was that last goal bouncing and bouncing. When it went through the MCG exploded and I spent the rest of game jumping up and down.

I was a 9 yo in the MCC members. Sat at the very back (shocking seats) in the first half with my sister. We'd spent hours the night before making confetti from phone books and any paper we could get our hands on. Think we just dumped it at half time. Jezza's mark was great but we were getting flogged so it was a bit of "whatever" as he took those all the time. Still the greatest player I have seen. We moved closer to the front in the second half with my brother and wow oh wow. A crazy day. Yep, Jezza's goal will never ever leave me- it was so him. My brother jumped the fence at the end and we have a great photo of him sitting at the foot of the dais as Big Nick holds the cup aloft. I jumped the fence in 72 to continue the family tradition.

Great stories folk....

i don't remember the 70GF...but by 1980
i was going out with a Colon supporter..
and her parents... grandmother...and
uncle were at the game...!

they literally opened bottles of champagne...
they were part of the celebrating Colon
people...!

i heard all about it many times...!

in 1981 her uncle took me to my first GF...he
said it was the first time ever someone
in his car would come home happy from
a GF...!

poor bugger...he left on the siren after
shaking my hand...told me to take as
long as I wanted...lap it up and meet him
in the car when ready...!

nice chap...!

that's as close as i get to the 70 GF...!

kindest regards tommi

I was driving around listening to the game that day with two mates (brothers) who were Collingwood fans. At half time they were all over me, "two GF loses in a row etc." They got pretty worried in the third term, but then Collingwood steadied with the last goal of the quarter. When, early in the last Teddy ran into an open goal and hit the post, then Collingwood goaled making the difference (I think) 21 points it looked like all over red rover.

Then as Carlton came with a rush we pulled over and sat in near silence until Carlton hit the lead, and then goaled again. Mal was near tears, his brother just went very, very quiet. I didn't relax until the siren sounded, couldn't bring myself to stick the boots in, their pain was so obvious and real. As we drove home Mal said to me "where are we going tonight?" I replied "I think I'll stay home and watch the replay". Mal gave me a look which somehow seemed to combine envy, pain and anger. "Yeah, you prick, I suppose you will".

"Watch the replay" Best way to stick the boots in I reckon

And he might be stupid enough to back Collingwood in the replay.

Best day of my life till 1972 GF.

Never seen so many people in the one area.

Very surreal for a 10yo boy.

TBH I was just glad to be there and didn't expect a win.

Wasn't too far up nor too far down during the game, but to come out with a win......FMD....I was in lala land and have been ever since.
