Next you'll tell us that we're in the 21st century and not the 20th

Moshe you do realise that there was no year 666 and no year 1666 do you? The years jumped from 665 to 667 and 1665 to 1667. How's that feed into your formula?

A decade is a period of 10 years. Look up Wikipedia or any other dictionary. You can start the time whenever you want. Dennis Armfield played a decade at Carlton from 2008-2017.

If you were born in 1970 you wouldn't say you were born in the 60s would you? No the 60s were from 1960-1969 and the roaring 20s were from 1920-1929. One century on and we are in 2020 the start of a new decade as most people would know it. If you want to live in a parallel universe go right ahead.

Good. But your third paragraph contradicts your second.

Look, count it however y'all want to. I'm just giving you what's correct mathematically. If you want to celebrate your kid's "first decade" on their 9th birthday, go right ahead.

Over and out. I got bigger fish to fry....

I have done some further research. It looks like 666 and 1666 actually did exist. My apologies. I don't know where I read that.

Anyway all other points remain. A decade can start and stop when you want it to as long as it is 10 years. Commonly it is xxx0 until xxx9.

If you want to celebrate your kid's first decade then you will celebrate the day that they were born until the day that they turned 10 as that is 10 years. If you wanted to celebrate their 10th year then you would celebrate from the day that they turned 9 until the day that they turned 10 as that is one year. If you wanted to celebrate their 10th anniversary of their birthday then you would wait until the day that they turned 10. It just depends on how long you want to celebrate.

By the way I did a sub-major of maths at uni. I know how it works.

If someone were born on at midnight on 31-1-2009 (or 00:00 1-1 2010, which is the same time), 2010 would be their first year of life, or year one. They would turn one at 24:00 on 31-12-2019 or 00:00 on 1-1-2020.
So if we say they were born at 24:00 on 31-12-2009 and they turned 10 at 00:00 on 1-1-2011 they would be older.

That should clear it up.

Yes, 2010–2019.
2020 is the last year of this decade

I know moshe and the millennium didn't start until 2001. But this is how most people roll on decades.
Got that right. And most people don't count their first anything as their zeroth. First anything is number 1. So 10th is number 10 (NOT number 9).

So..... that's two things I agree with kk about.

What's the other one? What don't we agree on?
