All clubs will be required to have a minimum of 37 players on their list next year, down from 38.

The maximum list size has fallen from 47 to 44.

Clubs must have 36 primary listed players and at least one rookie or Category B player.

Up to six rookies and two Category B rookies can be listed.

Thanks NBH. From the AFL.com article it sounds like the AFL has settled on a maximum of 38 players on the senior list. I have looked into the numbers a bit. We finished the season with 39 players on the senior list. 5 have now gone off the senior list (Simmo, Kreuz, Lang, BSOS and Finbar). 4 have now come on to the senior list (Williams, Saad, Fogarty and the club has committed to elevating Gibbons). Means we are already at the maximum number. Kennedy, Macreadie and Polson the only players currently out of contract. So, for each kid we draft in the national draft, one of these guys must go. The possibility remains that we re-rookie one or multiple of these guys.

I suspect we will take at least one kid in the draft. That probably means Polson will be delisted. If another kid is drafted, Kennedy or Macreadie will go. I suspect with the latter two we would re-rookie. Can’t see us taking more than 2 kids at the national draft maximum. Plus rumour on BF is that kennedy has agreed to terms for a further year but not yet announced by the club. IMO Kennedy and Macreadie should both stay on.

I have it as we have 37 as of today on the main list. Adding Gibbons takes it to 38. So for anyone to be drafted, Polson first to go to make room. Then if a second is drafted, Kennedy or the like to go.

Phillips (delisted) and Gibbons (upgraded) off the Rookie, leaving 2 spots.

38 on the main and 6 on the rookie. 44 Total.

Going to be a quiet draft I think. Probably only 2 live selections in each draft.

THE Carlton Football Club has informed a further four players that they will not be offered new contracts in 2021.

Harrison Macreadie, Callum Moore, Fraser Phillips and Cameron Polson were today told that their playing contracts will not be renewed, joining fellow delisted players Hugh Goddard, Darcy Lang, Finbar O’Dwyer and Ben Silvagni.

Marchbank and Plowman at an absolute pinch.

I wonder if they'll try Kemp there at times.

So 2 live picks in the ND (Gibbons upgraded with a third pick) and 3 picks in the RD.

Surely Macreadie gets re-rookied?

Fingers crossed the club will take on the maximum 42 players across the senior and rookie list (not including the additional 2 category B rookies allowed) and not opt for some lesser number which the AFL have allowed.

Factoring in Gibbons impending elevation to the senior list and Kennedy’s move from the senior to rookie list, we already have 35 players on the senior list and and 3 players on the rookie list (not including category B rookies). Means we have the capacity to bring in 4 more players (not including category B rookies) before we hit the maximum list size. Can be split either 1-3 (senior to rookie), 2-2 or 3-1. Perhaps the club intends to use both picks 38 and 48, which should come in slightly on draft night after bids are matched, or we have a delisted free agent in mind. Will be interesting to see what the club have in store but I really just hope we utilise the maximum list size

To reach 44, clubs can carry 36-38 senior listed players, four-to-six Category A rookies and two Category B rookies.

So by Rookying Kennedy, it allows us the flex to draft 2 and sign one DFA/draft a 3rd.

I’d take a look at Oscar McDonald as a back up tall back.

Correct, never got on the park in 4 years on our list, 9 games in 4 years????Special, The only key position he played was wasting time in our medical room over the last 4 years.

Weitering - not depth
Jones- not depth / also 30 next year
Casboult - not a defender / also 31 next year
McGovern - not a defender

So if (God forbid) Weitering goes down and/or we see the inevitable retirements of Jones and Casboult, where does that leave us?

we need to start adding youngster to list or our future recruits should be under 25 ,worried that we have a solid group of 27 yrs old gives us 4 good years need to keep adding to our younger age group and keep list building. Look at tigers lost higgins and this supporter on sen mentioned about 3 players that can replace him .

Newman, Newnes and Docherty are the only 27 year-olds currently on our list.

Saad, Plowman, Williams and McGovern are all 26.

There are no 28 year-olds.

We will have three 28 yo's next year...Newman, Newnes and Docherty
We will have four 27 yo's next year...Saad, Plowman, Williams and McGovern

We will have no 36yo or 33yo next year.

Murphy will be 34yo and Betts 73yo next year.

Seems we are going to leave one spot open.
To be honest, list looks more balanced but won't be happy if we don't add a young developing ruck on the list.

Could we develop Kemp as a KPP?
Maybe Marchbank will finally get his body right (unlikely I know).
McGovern can play in defence however probably isn't suited to play on the opposition gorillas.
