I was watching Ed in the midfield, then saw a bit of Cognilio, then Gibbons in the midfield and I was really impressed in Gibbo.
Ed is amazing, and Cogs is elite, but Gibbo is all that and more mobile than Ed. Both have tricks they make up on the spot.
Right under our noses.

Cogs is out.
Gibbons is in.

Target FA like Ellis, maybe Gray if he's cheap. Costs nothing.

Use picks to get Papley if possible for 2 x 1st rounders if must, or 2019 1st and 2020 2nd.
Use other picks on Martin and Crouch. Who knows, Crouch might want out and may come cheaper than a first rounder.
If we could get Papley and Crouch and possibly a depth player we have ample alternatives for our 1st rounders, I'd be rapt.

That's Ellis Crouch Papley Martin. I'll take any 3 of them.

Cameron Darcy got to be squeezed in there too; he's Crippas mate fyi.

I'd be happy.

That would give us a leg up, and in 2020 we target a ruckman and a midfielder to help make us a Top 4 team in 2021.

Next 2 years I hope we stick to SOS plan to plug up holes with experienced players. Top up with the cream.

Not keen on paying overs for Papley and I'm not sure Martin is that good.
Maybe a good idea to invest in the draft this year. Remember Simpson and Murphy will need to be replaced in 2021.

Draft is shallow, have enough kids.

If Murphy and Simpson need to be replaced in 2021 we don't need to be replacing them with 18 year olds, we need to be replacing them with 25+ year olds.

Martin is every bit worth a second rounder.

If Doc's worth a 2nd rounder, so is Martin!

I have been looking at trade targets. Here is my preference for what its worth.

We desperately need another good player in the middle. Not much to choose from ... motley crew. I have left out players that are definitely going to other clubs like Brad Hill who is a certainty for St Kilda.

Midfielders - High Priority that we get one.

1. B Crouch (talk that he and Adelaide will part ways ... gets lots of ball but terrible disposal).
2. Adam Tomlinson (wants to come home ... we are pursuing).
3. Cam Ellis-Yolmen (unrestricted free agent).
4. Zac Jones (wants to come home ... linked to Melbourne to play with Brother ... but apparently St Kilda in the mix ... maybe we could have a crack).
5. Bryce Gibbs (unhappy at Adelaide but a bit old now).
6. Harley Bennell (injury problems ... high risk ... high gain).
7. Nathan Jones (unrestricted free agent who has knocked back a deal with Melbourne, bit old).

Then we have other players we are currently pursuing.

1. Tom Papley (We need this bloke ... perfect fit).
2. Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (Gun ... if we could steal him from Bombers I would be over the moon).
3. Jack Martin (Real potential but not worth 750K).
4. Eddie Betts (Too old ... unless we can't get Papley).
5. Brandon Ellis (list Clogger).
6. Sam Gray (list Clogger).

Not a big fan of Crouch ... but probably best of a bad bunch of mid-fielders.

If we could get Crouch and Papley. Then add either McDonald-Tipungwuti, Martin or Tomlinson then it will be a very good trade period.

agree

we need to get 24-26yo players who are going to add value to the team in 2020, then again in 2021.

We can't just keep recruiting teens then have to trade them out because they haven't shown anything.

Kids are kids.
Just because we have been giving games to kids who are not ready doesn't make it a great formula.

Just have a look at the running commentary on 19yo Dow, 20yo OBrien, 21yo Fisher, 22yo Cuningham etc
They shouldn't even be given games but we had no choice.

NOW is the time for more seasoned players to help us win. We have enough kids.

In 2021 we can go for kids again...some.
Stick to the plan. Plan was not to target kids year after year after year, after year....

What's the argument?

Stuff Suns if they ant a 1st rounder for Martin.

We have a heap of cash and we need to spend it. Spend it on need.
We need quick skilful players: Papley and Martin fir the bill.
We have to pat overs to get them, so be it.

Agree with everything with the exception of your comments on Ellis, the 25yo Premiership player and current best 22 in a top 4 team and Premiership favourite. Plus he's a free hit.

Papley and Tippa would be great in a forwardline together. Salivating.

Need another big body in the midfield to help out Crippa Murph Ed...and I don't think Kennedy is that big body unless he improves his speed.
Don't want to rely on undeveloped kids in the middle in 2020: Dow LOB Fish and Stocker (despite believing Stocker will pass the other 3 in 2020)

Both free agents. Interestingly Ellis is ahead in most categories and has a disposal efficiency in 2019 of 76%.

Same draft class, picked within a few picks of each other, born within 7 days of each other...

Ellis does appear to have the slight edge, but also has somehow played over 30 more games than Tomlinson.

That's a great comparison. Thanks.

Ellis is ahead for sure. I think his Manager got too difficult to deal with so SOS looked at other options.

Tomlison the midfielder.
Seen him on a wing dominate.

194cm 96 kg next to Cripps and Walsh?
Is that a possibility?

I can't remember seeing him in a centre bounce.

If........gosh I'm salivating

Want quality FA's

What do you think BV.

You obviously made the comparison out of interest.

I'm actually surprised. I thought Tomlinson would be better rated. His advantage is he plays relieving ruck occasionally for GWS but not overly well.
They're both free agents so I'd take the one who is best value for money. Ellis can get forward and kick a goal which we need and gets back to help the defence as well. I know Tomlinson was all but over the line a few years back but Gubby Allan pulled the pin at the last moment. The Tomlinson family were convinced he was coming to Carlton and were very unhappy for quite a while.

I'd suggest perhaps Tomlinson has indicated a willingness to come and with the SOS connection, they've dropped off on Ellis to concentrate on him.
Only a suggestion, I don't have any inside info.

If it gets down to chasing Tomlinson or Ellis. Give me Tomlinson any day of the week.

Ditto

very versatile.

fills a need? he can play in the midfield group; we know that.

id he a midfielder? probably, given he can play a wing.
Big enough to have an inside impact.

If SOS lands him Carlton will be known as land of the giants.

I'm not a big fam of the smaller bodies unless they can do things Eddie and Cameron can do: they need pace.

Big midfielders beat the slow skinnies hands down in the contested possessions and clearances.
Sounds like a midfielder, doesn't it!
