You'd also think that clubs would have to take less players in the draft given the reduced list sizes.

Yes unless a team is rebuilding almost from scratch, hello Ess*, I can't see many clubs going into the 4th round and beyond unless there are experienced / VFL type players on the board.

They’ll probably get a priority pick for bottoming out too.

31 days until the trade period so let’s not panic about who we are getting or who we aren’t at the moment

Zac Williams is a very good get and is just cash -no picks required

If we can equal trade draft period this year as we did last we will be going well .

Martin for nothing Williams for nothing is a good start .

Getting Williams indicates to me we are seen as a much more attractive proposition than in previous years .
As usual we are linked with everyone and I think the only other clubs that everyone is reportedly going to is Geelong and to a lesser extent than Aints

The used car salesman AFL journalists speculate on money players moving and generally making it up so let’s not get disappointed about not getting someone who probably is not moving in any case
I enjoy hearing about the speculation of course but you need to take all these reports with a grain of salt and in a context where the journalists make things up ie Kreuz going to Collingwood

Enjoy the speculation but don’t believe it view the journalists as having the credibility of a used car salesman and you won’t be disappointed .

Great points you raise frank.

I never believe, AFL Commentators, so called journos. They are puppets of their owners. Really sick people, but I guess they're thinking a job is a job. I couldn't think of one who hasn't sold out to the owner of their stable.

Robbo taking Sheehan's role at Herald Sun is a disgrace. Have a look at everything he has pushed through that rag, Its not balanced, yet, that shouldn't surprise, he's not either. I loved what Barrett had to say, oublicly, about the Herald Sun and how they are compromised. @#$%&!, how embarrassing.

Great to see us on the map.

A good mate of mine, and here on TC, knows some Saints and he told me the attraction at Saints is the culture. At Geelong its going to a one club town but in the countryside. I look at the types that place attracts: lets say hicksville.

We are in a good place. Just get us Saad now, FFS, and don't please do a SOS and pull a poker face tha reeks arrogance coz it gets you nowhere. WE lost Betts for $50K when MM infiltrated Carlton. I'm told we lost Saad for something similar: stupid.

SOS failed with mids and HB. We lack speed because of his failures (Philp looks good, but we only got him when we couldn't get Sarong or Stephens) and now we are begging for them, and Saad is right there for the taking. Whatever is the cost, get him, and put it on SOS' tab.

Elite speed.
Explosive first step.
Decent leap.
Good kick.

That is the brief, isn't it?

I was thinking he’d be a good get when watching tigers games this year. A bit of pace and takes the game on. Wouldn’t cost much in picks or $$$s - worth the punt.

All excellent traits, if he was a midfielder.
How many defenders do we actually need?
And if you look up his stats it probably explains why he’s only played 6 games this year.
I just can’t understand why we are not stacking our midfield, again.

So the current status is:

Williams - On his way to Carlton
Graham - Staying at Richmond
Saad - Staying at Essendon*
Wines - Staying at Port
Crouch - Either Adelaide or Geelong
Viney - Unclear
Oliver - Carlton trying but unlikely
Kelly - Carlton trying but unlikely
Taranto - Carlton trying but unlikely
Atkins - Rumours about Carlton
Witherden - Unclear

Have I missed anyone?

I suspect that we might have another crack at Wines depending on how Port go in the finals.
Other than that the Blues should focus on luring one of Kelly, Oliver, Taranto or Viney in that order (probably not much chance but you never know).
I hope we don't go down the Atkins/Witherden path. :donk:

He is a midfielder.

He’s listed as a defender that has had 0 clearances in his 6 games this year.
And according to reports, he has been playing as a rebounding defender for at least the last 3 years.
Check the AFL app, there is a lot of below average stats.

No probs. But of course, things can and do change ... its a long way till the end of trading. Lets hope we can land a big fish.

If you believe that, then I won’t have any trouble convincing you that Dusty Martin is a forward pocket.

There’s probably only five roles on the field that aren’t occupied by midfielders.

Must say I'm not so keen on the idea on giving up 2 first rounders for a "big fish" midfielder. As far as I'm concerned there are currently too many "unknowns" on our list and we don't want another Judd scenario where we sell the farm only to make the bottom part of the final 8. For example:
- Will Charlie Curnow fully recover?
- Can SPS move out of defence to midfield or half forward?
- Can Kemp and Philp develop into quality mids?
- What's the go with Stocker?
- Will Dow and O'Brien make the grade?
- Can Marchbank get on the park? If not can McGovern become an effective defender?

If the answers to the above questions prove to be mostly positive then I will be happy for us to go all out to land a "big fish" at the end of next year however I don't think it would be wise to do so right now (always happy to land a good free agent however  ).

Talk about over analysing.
We need quality experience onball pure and simple.
