I too am disappointed that B. Silvagni got the chop, as I felt that he had developed over the last two years. I hope we have some plan for him once the details of the list and the secondary competition are sorted. I'd like to see him rookied or drafted onto the VFL list or something like that. If he ended up playing for Carlton in the VFL and wearing the no. 1 that would be quite entertaining.

Looks like we won’t see any further delistings too soon.

AFL still twiddling their thumbs re list sizes. Embarrassing.

This is the biggest joke yet by the AFL - "Clubs are still waiting on a decision from the AFL on list numbers for next year"
Apart from making it hard for clubs, what about the players lively hood and future?
Seriously pathetic and the fact the AFL think it's all good and well to drag it on, makes it even a bigger disgrace.
As previously stated, these list change affects us as a club more than anyone else and more importantly with the last 12 months playing restrictions/development.
I really hope the 'players association' finally earns there money and stands firm here and tell the AFL to f@#k off - we are keeping the current list sizes!!!!

Our list changes have been deeper then any other team over the past 2 or so years and we have a number of youngsters on our list that we just need more time to either develop or evaluate. The last 12 months with COVID limitations, it's made it even harder to understand the development within the group.

I feel if we have to cut deep and we start cutting players like Macreade for instance, that would hurt us more than any other team, who have seasoned campaigners or even not as reliant on their youth developments as we are right now. Then add some mature aged players that we won't be able to add, due to list changes or rookie draft removal and we are definitely hurting more with youngsters development.

I don’t really see that it has more effect on Carlton than it does on any number of clubs. It’s farcical that they still can’t say what the number is, even though they’ve been talking about it for months.

Message to Nick Austin.

Get Saad.

Find a way to get a first round pick in, and get Kelly/Merrett and if you can, get Viney.

Then I can say with conviction, we are knocking on the door to The Big Dance.

We are not that far off. We need the pieces to make it all click.

Return memo from the desk of Mr Austin:

Please advise how you expect to pay for all of that.

When did Macreadie become a valuable commodity?

Fair enough - people have their own views. I'll leave this discussion there as it seems we have reached kindergarten stage agian.

Now lets get this all in perspective.

Williams - certainty
Viney - Good Chance
Graham - Between us and Richmond
Wines - Always wanted to be a Blue ... we are pursuing
Saad - We want him

Then in the draft we need to take 3. Lets say we get 4 of the above 5.

Assuming list size will be reduced to 38 and we currently have 46.

We would need to get rid of 11 players. Hmm ... its gunna get ugly.

Then there is talk of Kelly and Oliver.

And apparently we are going after Narkle.

Clearly we won't get all of these players but there is a high chance of us getting Williams/Graham/Viney.

Something has got to give.

cal twomey said on his podcast that clubs can elevate rookies to the senior list and that counts towards the minimum of 3 picks

clubs also have the option to delist a player and say we will pick you up in the draft - there is a gamble with that approach.

It seems unlikely it will go to 38 next year doesn’t it? I thought they were going to do it more gradually. Then again, who knows, they’ve only had 6 months to talk about it.

Why is there a high chance of us getting Graham & Viney?

If we can forget about big fishes for a minute
I don’t know if any saw Marty Rendell on Open Mic but it was an excellent interview
Rendell is a reasonable recruiter
He one criteria for picking a kid was effort
He mentioned Ed Curnow
He reckons Phillips from the Chargers is a beauty
It’s certainly food for thought given the title of this thread
The effort of many in that first half last Saturday was shit

I’m not a massive believer in the ineffectiveness overall of getting the big fish
Mc Govern we all are starting to agree on
Martin why is this bloke loved by you blokes
I don’t get it
As I said this bloke has had it way too easy in his AFL career
When Teague has asked him to put in at the Midfield he has failed
@#$%&! overrated

Now we are going to pay a shitload for a guy who has played 2 good games in the middle his whole career
Williams was average this year
I repeat average
Saad looks great when he runs
He is a liability in the air

I warned everyone about trading out what he had for Mc Govern
BV admit it
At the moment McAdam shits all over McGovern
Period
The poster talking about glass half full
Free Agency
Throwing away multiple picks for one guy
Don’t guarantee success
I reckon under 50%
Come ondown Essendon*

I’ll be the first to say I’m wrong if we make top 4

And it won’t matter if Soss batch of mids turn out to be spuds because if you bat 4 to 5 deep in the middle you are going nowhere
Big deal how many quarters we won
Our ladder position tells us where we are

I want 100% effort
