Everything went against us that game. Wouldn't read too much into it - good lessons for Teague and the playing group.

From playing against the wind for three quarters to Geelongs scrubby kicks from clearances hitting the chest at stupid-like efficiency.

Need lots of work to be more aggressive moving the ball forward than yesterdays efforts. We desperately missed Gibbons and desperately need Papley, Martin and Coniglio.

Yep but we have to address a number of issues going forward. We continually get told the game is 90% above the shoulders and although the percentages are debatable, momentum and confidence are genuine match winners.
I love Paddy Dow but his misses early and from other culprits were absolutely critical. We had the chance to get ourselves into the game and we continually shot ourselves in the foot.
Paddy has to improve his kicking/composure or he needs to get bigger and tougher around the contest and become an inside ball winner or there won't be a role for him in the game. Harry needs a big off season as well. It's pointless having a key forward who can take strong grabs but can't convert.
6.13 to 14.6 at 3/4 time told the story. Yes Geelong were more composed and take far greater advantage of their stoppages but we dominated the game for reasonable lengths of time and kicked like shit.
We saw how conversion can kill you off or help you win games against the Bulldogs. They couldn't hit the site of a barn and as a result, we had easily our biggest win of the season. Not that we dominated the game but we took our chances and gained confidence from it.

The midfield is the other issue which I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. The reliance on 4 players not only takes a toll on them but it prevents other players from developing. When Ed went down, we bought Kennedy into the rotation. When did he last play reasonable midfield minutes with Cripps and Murphy?
Yes it will win more games playing the old heads but the youngsters will struggle to come on. If Fish and Dow aren't playing midfield in the AFL, play them there in the VFL so they can hone their craft and gain experience and confidence.

The apparent lack of ability to recruit a specialist small forward is doing my head in. Either SOS doesn't believe in the role or he can't identify one. Whichever it is or whoever is struggling to get one on our list, push them aside and give someone else an opportunity to identify one. Just dumping midfielders there and expecting to "become" a small forward isn't working. Especially when those same midfielders are not actually getting any time in the midfield to develop their midfield skills. :banghead:

I agree that the misses by Dow & McKay in the first quarter were deflating. Dow had 2 opportunities which, had he nailed them, I reckon would have energised the group. And the McKay miss was as predictable as it was frustrating. Not saying we would have gone on to win the game, but I reckon it would have been a much more competitive match if we’d been within a couple of goals at quarter time.

As a team, we need to be more ruthless in capitalising on our opportunities when we have the momentum. Dow & McKay have been repeat offenders; they definitely need to address that area.

Not quite so sure about your point re: Dow & Fisher’s midfield minutes. Both had plenty of time in the midfield in the first half of the year, arguably too much. When Dow was dropped to the VFL, he played midfield. I think it was reasonable to give Dow & Fisher a block of games playing predominantly forward later the year, given our needs. I don’t think that means that will be their long term positions necessarily.

Dow was a pick 3
For an elite junior he has benn very poor
Don’t put the pencil through him yet because of his age but it’s a bit of a worry
He played this year like he had no confidence at all
In the same draft SOs picks O Brien who is incredibly soft at 10
Hardness is a mindset
Kade Simpson has played at 76 kg in a wet tuxedo his whole career but he is tough
OBrien is a liability
Good kick
Can run all day
But so soft
Again too early to put the pencil through him but when a guy is 100 % an outside player playing
Between the arks your pissing into the wind long term

Kennedy was pick 28
As I have said before incredibly slow
Has shown he has forward craft but came to the club as an inside mid
So far has shown s.f.a as a mid
DeKoning May be the only win in the 2017 draft
Big guys take time

You probably do but i don't.............especially if they are making fair and reasonable point's.If getting' flogged by 11 goals by a 2 man band is OK with you then fine last game or not.

Two man band that finished on top of the ladder...hahaha. Two man bands don't finish on top of the ladder with a percentage of 135.

We got thrashed in a game, so what. Happens to all sides all the time.

Unlike you I look at the 6-5 finish and make a judgement not one game unlike yourself. That's what intelligent thinkers do.

Are you for real Jim..................talking about that game and that game alone.................intelligence ? wouldn't be questioning my intelligence Jim coz you totally missed my point which was simply put yet you failed to grasp that..............

I got your point, you spoke crap.

You dribbled on about Saturday, I looked a bit deeper at the 6-5 finish.

I reckon you speak a lot of crap too
I do hope the young guys get better and that Teague can devise a game plan that works with the players he has at his disposal
Ditto a stand alone reserves team which is often forgotten given its importance
Nothing personal but where all entitled to an opinion

I’m with Mickstar. Saturday was deflating.

We talk about young uns but Fish and SPS have just completed their 3rd year of senior AFL footy.

They need to step up. SPS whilst ok in patches is not consistent enough for me....and Fish still looks like an Under 17 player.....he needs to put on weight or ask Simmo what he needs to do to bust a gut and be courageous during games.

Dow and LOB just completed their 2nd year of senior AFL footy. Again they need to step up rather than leaving it to the senior players. God forbid what happens if Murph Ed Cripps Kreuzer (to a lesser extent) have an off season next year? Who’s going to fill the breach? COGS, Papley, Martin?

I may be asking too much but whilst not expecting a win l wanted all of the pteam cracking in and l don’t believe we did that.

Yes Cats finished 1st. Their 2nd half of the season has not been good and l do not think they will win the flag. Keep Dangerfield, Ablett and Kelly in check and you will be in games against them right up to your eyeballs.

Thanks for the backup Rod..............dunno who that RinTin .Jim bloke is...........anyhow,never argue with a fool for more than a minute or no one will no the differences .........you get it Rod.Despite the Cats lofty ladder position in many ways they are travelling very ordinarily.Joel Selwood is struggling to get a kick lately.Tomahawk can't buy a goal, and Dahlhaus and Rohan are flakey downhill skiers of the highest order. And Rhys Stanley as your first ruck ? they were very vulnerable and we should have given 'em a decent fright.........we have been great for 3 months but to finish like that was deflating and makes you wonder.

Its done.
Its at Kardinia Park. 9 metres longer but 22 metres skinnier than the MCG, with straight line wings to fit the stadium.
Couldn't they have built it the other way around. The stadium around the playing arena.
Its line playing a basketball on a 3/4 court and saying "same, same!"
FMD.

I digress, its done.

The Best 22 in round 1 2020 will be much different to the team in round 23 2019.
Forget it.

Toot Toot.
