While not unexpected, with the Cats' players throwing their arms in the air and the crowed roaring. It was infuriating.

Bad time to have a bad game............makes it just a harder sell for the membership dept.............and a harder sell trying to entice those sitting on the fence tossing up where they wanna go...................why the faaark won't our young's step up ? Dow,Fisher, and Cunningham were atrocious yesterday and PetSet not much better. There Cats counterparts are average with Danger and Ablett carrying them................faaarking hell, fancy being scared of the the woman band the Cats..........i know a lot of you guys are more forgiving than me but i reckon that was shit yesterday......Kids standing around watching Cripps,Murph,Walsh,Kruz,WeitersEddie, and Plow doing the heavy lifting made me sick in the guts. The Cats are average and an up and coming side like ours should have done better.Poor finish to the season.Taken the wind out of our sails.

I think Andrew Russell and Teague will make them pay for that over the summer.

Really? One game has that much impact? We lost to the top team at their home runway. We were half focused on celebrating the end of year.

We won 6 of the last 11. That’s what sells memberships, not a who gives a duck round 23 fixture.

Body of work vs one game.

I don’t get it. Every side in the comp over the last eleven weeks has put in a shocker. Even the top four. WCE just got pantsed. We beat Brisbane. Collingwood got flogged. Essendon* got flogged twice. GWS in all sorts. Geelong got beaten by Freo of all teams. Only the Tigers have been consistent and they’re likely going to win it.

I get the sour taste but 6-5 playing the top four is a great result for a developing team. Teague with a summer to train his tactics and another year for everyone under Russell. A new shrink for the players to get their heads right.

I haven’t been this positive since 2000 because it’s both off field and on field where the pieces are more aligned then they have ever been.

That performance today confirmed we have a long way to go

Who said we won't play finals. Didn't know our future was simply decided by just today's effort. If every side was judged on one effort no-one would make the finals.

6-5 in the last 11 matches with an awful draw in that time is a good effort. We're not top 4 level yet, as we found against the Cats, Tigers and Eagles, but we knew that and something we have to build further towards. Just another step along the journey.

Well said jim

Plus a lot of stars out:

Backline...Docherty Jones Marchbank
Ruck...TDK
Midfield ...Gibbons
Forwardline...Charlie Curnow

...and a key forward who cant kick straight...not Levi...Harry!

Playing kids with small weak bodies against men: Fisher DeLuca OBrien ... even SPS looked light weight

Kreuzer plays ruck rover and he's no quicker than Kennedy. Both a liability if we want to play finals in 2020.

You probably do but i don't.............especially if they are making fair and reasonable point's.If getting' flogged by 11 goals by a 2 man band is OK with you then fine last game or not.

2 man band who've finished second on the ladder at the end of H&A

Yeah, true Scotty, but they got a lot of players who are no better than ours hence my angst.

Everything went against us that game. Wouldn't read too much into it - good lessons for Teague and the playing group.

From playing against the wind for three quarters to Geelongs scrubby kicks from clearances hitting the chest at stupid-like efficiency.

Need lots of work to be more aggressive moving the ball forward than yesterdays efforts. We desperately missed Gibbons and desperately need Papley, Martin and Coniglio.

Yep but we have to address a number of issues going forward. We continually get told the game is 90% above the shoulders and although the percentages are debatable, momentum and confidence are genuine match winners.
I love Paddy Dow but his misses early and from other culprits were absolutely critical. We had the chance to get ourselves into the game and we continually shot ourselves in the foot.
Paddy has to improve his kicking/composure or he needs to get bigger and tougher around the contest and become an inside ball winner or there won't be a role for him in the game. Harry needs a big off season as well. It's pointless having a key forward who can take strong grabs but can't convert.
6.13 to 14.6 at 3/4 time told the story. Yes Geelong were more composed and take far greater advantage of their stoppages but we dominated the game for reasonable lengths of time and kicked like shit.
We saw how conversion can kill you off or help you win games against the Bulldogs. They couldn't hit the site of a barn and as a result, we had easily our biggest win of the season. Not that we dominated the game but we took our chances and gained confidence from it.

The midfield is the other issue which I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. The reliance on 4 players not only takes a toll on them but it prevents other players from developing. When Ed went down, we bought Kennedy into the rotation. When did he last play reasonable midfield minutes with Cripps and Murphy?
Yes it will win more games playing the old heads but the youngsters will struggle to come on. If Fish and Dow aren't playing midfield in the AFL, play them there in the VFL so they can hone their craft and gain experience and confidence.

The apparent lack of ability to recruit a specialist small forward is doing my head in. Either SOS doesn't believe in the role or he can't identify one. Whichever it is or whoever is struggling to get one on our list, push them aside and give someone else an opportunity to identify one. Just dumping midfielders there and expecting to "become" a small forward isn't working. Especially when those same midfielders are not actually getting any time in the midfield to develop their midfield skills. :banghead:

I agree that the misses by Dow & McKay in the first quarter were deflating. Dow had 2 opportunities which, had he nailed them, I reckon would have energised the group. And the McKay miss was as predictable as it was frustrating. Not saying we would have gone on to win the game, but I reckon it would have been a much more competitive match if we’d been within a couple of goals at quarter time.

As a team, we need to be more ruthless in capitalising on our opportunities when we have the momentum. Dow & McKay have been repeat offenders; they definitely need to address that area.

Not quite so sure about your point re: Dow & Fisher’s midfield minutes. Both had plenty of time in the midfield in the first half of the year, arguably too much. When Dow was dropped to the VFL, he played midfield. I think it was reasonable to give Dow & Fisher a block of games playing predominantly forward later the year, given our needs. I don’t think that means that will be their long term positions necessarily.

Can’t believe a 2 man band beat 17 other 18 player teams to finish top of the ladder. Remarkable.

Did any other teams have a 1 poor performance in their last 11 matches? Yes. And 7 of them could still win the premiership despite that. Again. Remarkable.

Nobody is accepting anything. Every team in this comp has had a terrible week as well. It happens to the best. Looks at West Coast this week. Our performances under Teague has shown what we are capable of.

Two man band that finished on top of the ladder...hahaha. Two man bands don't finish on top of the ladder with a percentage of 135.

We got thrashed in a game, so what. Happens to all sides all the time.

Unlike you I look at the 6-5 finish and make a judgement not one game unlike yourself. That's what intelligent thinkers do.
