I think ‘insipid early’ is too strong. We were on top throughout the whole first quarter, but just didn’t get the scoreboard impact we should’ve. Conditions playing a big part in that.

of course Cec.............i am baffled by these comments re lack of intent. For mine, that was the most pleasing aspect of our game.We went in hard and never wilted despite a VERY determined opponent on there home deck which favoured the...........nah,we had a go for four quarters and never took our foot off the pedal.Turnovers and poor decision making ( our captain number one culprit ) which killed us last night.Cant fault the endeavour myself.

but you'd think that all the rah rah from last week would've still been there at the first bounce

We played like millionaires for a good part of the second half last week...maybe that was the problem

The 4 or 5 very gettable missed set shots in the first half last night didn't help either.

Watching Richmond play last night was as close to military precision as I have ever seen

They are the best drilled team of all time

Carlton need to find that level of cohesion

Plaudits to Hardwick (and his assistants) for implementing a nearly impenetrable system

So envious

St Kilda are a pretty dumb team though - not flakey just dumb. I am sure clubs have figured out that Richmond thrive when multiple players run at the ball carrier as they spread giving options. I have lost count at how many times multiple Saints players were running to the ball carrier leaving holes galore.

Yep. The instruction needs to be that the closest man goes to the carrier, everyone else spreads.

True - Port played it well - transitioned between zone play and one on one - highly structured as well. Richmond is a very beatable team if you can beat or break even with your opponent and play them close. If it wasn't for Dusty running amock in the last we could have beaten them if the last fell in our favour instead.

That's what we do & the opposition waltz through a series of one-on-one contests.

The instruction needs to be win the ball back.

Richmond swarm the ball and attack it and the player hard. Makes the opposition panic and make errors. Even if they fail to make the ball spill, there is one of their mates to help out.

Noticed at the book ends they have their tall players but all around the ground the players are the same size, quick and stocky too. They are really good. Unfortunately our players dont attack the player and the ball hard, then tend to wait for someone to give it to them, or wait for one another to go in almost like they are hesitant. Not sure how a football team can think they can win finals if they are not hungry at the contest.

Well yes, winning the ball is always priority #1. But when the opposition has it, we all go to them and get ripped apart on the outside. Just like we always have 3 blokes up in the air for the spoil and no-one on the deck.

Fair bit of this, but also a crippling fear of getting beat.

They’d rather live on their knees than die on their feet.

No system. No effective reaction to quell their impact. No changes to the game style. NOTHING. If I hear him say something about belief etc in his presser then he is taking the piss. If it wasn't clear previously, then it should be obvious now. He has no proactive mindset in his coaching. The players are looking lost generally and that's a huge slur on Teagues ability to coach them effectively. It's just another of far too many unacceptable performances.

Very disappointing. We need an effective communicator who doesn’t mince his words. Which coaches out there are next in line? It’s not about winning friends. It’s about getting results. I stated MM earlier because he was unfashionable, not liked but ultimately, on the whole, got results. Do the people in high places have the balls, or vision to realise this and make the change to get someone who has some real authority about them?

I fear our club is too concerned about its brand being “modern” in a PC, overly sensitive, f—ked up industry, when in the past it was the complete opposite attitude which won us flags. Does our club have an identity crisis?!
