I don't know about you, but I'm well over half arsed efforts from senior players. It shouldn't be the standard they walk past.

It was the token 50m penalty. Yes, it was there but the umps missed several others that were more obvious.
What I can't understand is the tendency last year and now this last couple of weeks to allow players not in a marking contest to scruff the player who took the mark from behind and hold on to him while his team mates set up downfield. I would have thought that constituted entering the protected area on a far bigger scale than running past him three metres away.
IMO, if you aren't in the marking contest and you grab or block the player and stop him from moving forward of the mark, it's an automatic 50 metre penalty.
I don't blame the players or coaches for the trend, thy will always play to the edge.
The fault lies squarely with the umpires.
When 5000 people in the crowd yell 'fifty' in unison, you can bet there's a good reason for it. When 50,000 do it, it s even more compelling but mostly nothing happens.

I believe it is the AFL at fault here. They are making the game far too complicated and hard to umpire.

Maybe Diesel will work for nothing when the game starts again.
Maybe Fev will help with the kicking .
It will be a return to volunteers for a while until the cash starts coming back in.

Interesting twitter q&a with Teaguey today.

This answer I found interesting and I hope the young players take the hint...

On FC tonight. Like how professional we look with the sponsor banner up behind the coach. Did it with Russell the other day too. The other clubs just have their home/office/kitchen. Pity about Virgin ......

Teachers all around the world are having to go outside their box. It's been a revelation for them according to my daughter's teacher.

That didnt last long.

We will lose a lot of really good people: support staff.

Same everywhere else but Carlton's circa 2020 crop of off fields staff is the best of breed: best we've ever had.

Virgin will keep going.

Great move sticking by them by the club.

Teague has to cut out these woeful first quarters. It is a bizarre trend.

Jeez that's a bit rough. We haven't lost a first quarter since March!

It's so f##%$%^ deflating for supporters.
You wait all week to see your beloved Blues and they dish up nothing but insipid sh1te in the first qtr on a regular basis
The Bulldogs and Demons game last year come to mind
No excuses...none...it's the single biggest concern I have with Teague

Its not just Teague. Russell was a good get but Ive yet to see any improvement in the team ability to be consistently competitive each and every quarter and loose the lapses that inevitably cost us a 4 goal or so deficit!
