Saw this pic on Facebook posted by a Pies history group, along with the following text:

Stuart Atkin taking a big mark against Carlton at Princes Park. Not sure what year exactly, it’s definitely early 1980s.
It can’t be a home and away game as Atkin never played against Carlton at that ground. I’m guessing it’s a practice match?
Mario Bortolotto in the background, possibly Shane Robertson 38 although he didn’t start until 1983? Not sure who’s trying to spoil Atkin.

Anyone have anything? I thought the guy in the background might be David Honeybun, & not Bortolotto as suggested.

Looks like a huge crowd for a practice match.

Maybe Geoff Hocking doing the spoiling.

Thought that too - but Hocking had a bigger nose. Could be Ross Addlem. It's likely Bortolotto in the background.

Anyway...FWIW - I reckon it's reserve grade - from 3rd May, 1981.
Carlton 19.17. 131
Collingwood 12.24. 96

Number 38 belongs to Mark Kerr.

I reckon it’s too thickset for Ross Adlem.

Mark Kerr, uncle of present day Patrick Kerr or father?

Surely that's not a practice game.

If it’s not Geoff Hocking, the only other ranga on our list in 1981, who was a biggish player was Robert Dutton, maybe him.

See, I don't reckon the pictured player is all that big...and Major Dutton had that thick beach blonde wavy hair...so I'm ruling him out. Might have to go back through some footage to see who wore the orange striped Copa mundials.

Could be a “permit player” someone not in the list.

First player that sprung to mind for me was Greg Towns, not sure if he's the right era for the other players.

Pretty sure that's a white maggot in the background.

I thought you were younger than me. You're pulling out names I'm struggling with. Happy 50th?
