I say STILL because by my estimates there was a 4-6 week period recently where he will be lucky to get 1 vote. Injury, some flat games. And the various odds makers have reflected this. But he surely will get 3 votes from the weekend just past.

Are any of the front runners cast iron guarantees?

Doubt it now given injuries and those few poor games. Have any of the other favourites missed many games? That'll be the difference. He'll poll well anyway but I think he's probably happier about the rewards of winning onfield than he is about the individual accolade this year.

A strong run home will probably have him well in frame, and I'm guessing most players have a flat patch during the year.

You're probably right on both fronts but as fans we dare to dream. Without looking up the record books I presume not every year the favourite wins. As usual it will come down to whether the umpires give him one vote only in games he plays well but we lose. That has been the story in the past. But with every new year his reputation gets louder and I wonder if that slowly impacts on the umpires voting. What if now they give him 2 votes instead of 1 when we lose? Throw in a strong run home and maybe he is in the frame.

I reckon Kelly would be leading, so he either needs to drop off the pace or get injured. Plus Cripps would have to kill the next 4 games, win or lose.

It all might come down to round 23 too. Wouldn't that be a great result, if Crippa just pips him at the line.

We are minus “100” in free kicks this season - and don’t fancy the chances that the umpires are going to do him any favours.

Really??

You know I don't really want Hinkley as a coach, but at least he has the balls to publicly question the umpiring.

Maybe our esteemed president needs to do the same, that flog Eddie would.

Nic Newman would get the 3 votes round 17

In those losing games it would be highly unlikely that those 2 vote games would be two votes, more like one vote.

And any game that Matthew Nicholls was the senior umpire- you’d expect a “John Russo” result.

Cripps is fav or second fav in a few major agencies odds.

I reckon he's a decent chance but will need to play some big games in the run home. Would be nice if his teammates keep up the good form. Could be the difference between 1 vs 2 or 2 vs 3 votes.

Sam Walsh will get BOG last four games so Crippa might just miss out.

I reckon he’s definitely a fraction off the pace at the moment. Had too many losses, missed a few, and a few really quiet games. That said, still 12 votes up for grabs. If we can win at least 2 more games I reckon he’ll be an outside sniff. Kelly and Neale the ones to catch I reckon. Maybe Fyfe

It all depends on team mates pinching votes.

Geelongs winning ledger implies to me umpires can give them to a few Cats players, whereas Cripps is a standout when he plays win or lose.

I reckon less players to pinch votes from Cripps will get him over the line.

4 games with injury and recovery will not rob him. I think he gets votes most weeks because he's under the nose of umpires nearly the entire game.

I thought he was a chance for more votes in most of the abovementioned games.

3 votes v Richmond
Possibly 2 votes v Port, and if the umps dont like Rockliff then maybe 3.

etc etc

There will also be a few games where he gets the 3, 2 and 1 vote.

My bookie doesn't seem to think so.

Only offering $140 "Cash-out" on my $100/$900 bet.
