Quite frankly I don't want to hear about this crap we have had far too many of them in recent seasons after pathetic losses when we simply don't turn up - don't bother about this theatre saying we wont accept performances like this - we continue to not turn up to games half of games quarter of games - SO accordingly we do accept it

How about turning up to each game mentally and physically switched on and give us value for money you never know we might even fluke a win

This ra ra hairy chested stuff during the week doesn't excite the fans its a bit like the boy crying woof - it doesn't work and it happens all the time -it is spin it is smokescreen - we are sick of this crap do the job you are paid for otherwise SHUT THE HELL UP :banghead:

Frank, dinosaurs like you and I struggle with the mindset of the modern AFL player.

It is what it is - not gonna change.

Let’s hope they have finally flowering realised it’s not just about redemption for one game. It’s about bringing the effort and competitiveness for every game. Until then, talk is cheap and way too often from our club.....

I hope the review didn’t miss certain players and with all due respect - SPS has had the most easy cruising bruise free 50 games l have ever seen.... he makes Gibbs look like Luke Hodge.

I agree in part to what your saying Frank.

Its disappointing that Docherty and Cripps had to lead such a review so soon again after the Roos debacle. However in doing so and having the players on board to not only participate but take ownership, to me thats clear evidence the coach has not "lost" the players.

I had a listen to Dochertys podcast with Robbo, Jon andersen and Brian Taylor. Docherty was very good on this podcast. It was genuinely heartfelt and he was clear on the message such performances are not acceptable. But I also agree that actions speak louder than words. We have heard this message many times in the past and inevitably we seem to come back to the same point. He was clear that we cant continue to come back to that same point, we must come to play week in and week out. There is no excuses. He was adamant there was in depth review of each player and what went wrong. He also mentioned that there needs to be improvement and more consistency not only on the field but off it as well. Not so much about drinking or other things like that, but more players impact around professionalism and game preparation etc.

He finished by noting he had been on the radio earlier saying that members and supporters WILL see a reaction and they will come out breathing fire and bring brutality in their effort, play etc this week against the saints and they must keep doing it beyond.

So frank - yes these are words and hold zero excitement because we have heard them or words similar so many times before without change. The challenge is to turn those words into actions which are repeated ad-nauseum so we don't go back to that point again.

Lets see if we get the action huh?

BRING IT ON!

If nothing else, if the player don't show up with the level of effort required there will be no one else to blame.

The players have made a statement that the coach cannot be blamed for lack of effort from the players.

Wonder if the media will come after the players as much they did the coach if they don't back it up?

Thanks to all for the comments - Mick Im not jumping off couldn't if I tried - I have been preaching patience with young players in here and its predecessor sites since sporn livo and vance days - but enough talk and will never slate a team if the give 100% but are not talented enough - but lack of effort and not turning up consistently is totally unacceptable

Now go and spiflicate the Aints :smoking:

I kinda get where Frank is coming from. We're all growing tired of the talk.

But, if this is a case of the players genuinely taking ownership of the mess they have created then this is not just a great show of leadership from Cripps and Doc, but also a sign the players are invested in improving.

I know I'm bordering on the psychobabble myself here, but we have to give the players credit on this one and hope that it works.

If not that, what else have we got?!

Well, my experience is that words are cheap. It is what you do that counts. The effort on the field can be the only marker on the rhetoric.

I don't want to loose any game , but it's how we loose that shits me , when there is little to no effort like on Sunday is totally unacceptable . As others have said talk is cheap.

Completely agree. I mainly lurk here and read a bit, but it doesn't mean it's not hurting. I'm so sick of hearing about things - I want to see it, consistently.

It wasn't that long ago carlton had a couple of bad losses, maybe a loss to Essendon* was included. Talked it up before a game against Melbourne {i think}. Put in 5 minutes of intense effort, the opposition didn't roll over and the blues got walloped again.

Humans are humans
Therefore you can’t bring that maximum effort every week
It’s hard to actually equate but if you drop to 95% against a good team who had
a shocker the week before your going to get slaughtered if
your not that good

The list is overrated internally as well
Collingwood were not on the week before until the last 5 minutes of the match
Take Cripps out of the game and the cupboard is bare in the middle where games are won these days

These crisis honest meetings sound good but are meaningless in the long run
Prepare for more thrashings particularly with a few more injuries
Playing teams on the rebound
