Absolutely agree. It's great we came properly prepared this week. But 2 honourable losses to good teams, followed by a pathetic effort against a not-so-good team cannot be allowed. To be fair, bringing our best this week and then doing so again next week is not mutually exclusive.
We should simply pick our best available team for both weeks.

GWS' strength on paper is their midfield, but I'm confident we can match them if we bring the same intensity as Saturday.

The problem will be Toby @#$%&! Greene in the forward 50.

No, you're right. It shouldn't be. But sadly, this has been the main frustration over the last few years. We get up for good opposition (and compete). But we fail to get up for weaker opposition.

I was never expecting an amazing ladder finish this year. But if we can't win enough of the games we 'deserve' to win, then we won't attract good free agents, and we extend the rebuild by a year or 2.

CARLTON will likely be without Lachie Plowman when they face the Giants this Sunday however fellow defender Nic Newman is considered a “good chance” of making the trip.

Plowman is set to miss a week after a knock late in Saturday’s match saw him leave the MCG with a fractured cheekbone.

Director of High Performance Andrew Russell confirmed the backman would require surgery over the coming days.

“Plowman got a knock very late in the game and unfortunately fractured his cheekbone,” said Russell.

“He’s going to have surgery this week and he’ll probably miss this week’s game.”

Tom Williamson also suffered a hyper-extension to his back on Saturday, sidelining him for at least the next few weeks.

“Willo hyper-extended his back in the fourth quarter. He came off and was a bit restricted when he came back on the ground,” he said.

“At this stage he’s pretty sore and we don’t expect him to play for the next couple of weeks.”

Blues fans will likely have to wait another week for the return of key defender Liam Jones as he manages remaining concussion symptoms from Round 7.

“Jonesy has still got some low-grade symptoms – it’s not unexpected given the big hit that he did have,” he said.

“At this stage we don’t expect him to be playing this week.”

It’s not all bad news, however, with experienced defenders Kade Simpson and Nic Newman expected to re-join the team over the coming weeks.

Newman is likely to make his return this Sunday against the Giants having sat out the last two rounds with patella tendon soreness.

“Newy’s patella is settling really well, he’s a test to play and is a good chance,” he said.

“We’ll run him through his paces this week and see if he gets up.”

There was a similar view for Simpson, who is on track for a return after being sidelined with a hamstring after the Blues clash with Hawthorn.

“Simmo is recovering really well from that hamstring. We think that he’ll miss one more game and then he should be back for the St Kilda game,” he said.

wouldnt be making too many changes ... like for like i would hope.

as it is, i hope this is the game the lads really get up for ... they embarassed us last year ... effectively ended the game with 16 fit players and still outscored us .. i would have been filthy and not easily forgotten.

if the lads go out with the same vigour and same intesity as against the pies we are a real chance ... infact, honestly, if we go out with the endevour we did against the pies and with abit of consistency from the umpires i cant see why we cant go on abit of a run ...

carlton to go on abit of a run here .... gws, saints, bombers, lions at home, dogs, freo away, dees, swans, suns, crows at home ... actually think we are a real chance in every single one of them.

You'll require a 7th defender for rotations. Schumacher is probably the better option.
Otherwise push Jack into the defensive rotation. Then reshuffle the front half.
Our midfield has been a strength. Cripps, Dow, Fisher, Cuningham, Murphy, Setterfield, Walsh, SPS all had centre square stints against the Pies.

Don't like our chances against GWS however agree that nearly all of our matches following this game are winnable and wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with 6 wins this season.
