Very sad.

Never quite a fixture in the team but good enough to win the goalkicking in 1978 and a loved personality around the club. Also as I recall active in the players union and after footy made a fortune in business.

Galty was highly regarded at Carlton and valued as a prized recruit.

He had it all when he was switched on. He liked to live life as many did in the 80's.

Had his footy card when he was at StKilda.

Galty was good fun. Got to meet him through his brother Greg, who I played footy with and my first Premiership Coach. Great family.

Had the best pad on the Gold Coast. He knew hpw to have fun.

67yo ... gone too early.

Kids will miss him: they're soooo young.

RIP Spooky

If someone can post his iconic photo of the Carlton Bluebirds that would be a fitting tribute.

There was a game against North Melbourne in 1978 at Princes Park, he marked everything in sight and kicked 5 or 6 goals, probably the best game he ever played, he really was an enigma.

67 way to early.

Condolences to his family.

78 rounds 11 and 12 kicked 6 against tiges and saints.
His best game that year was at Arden Street where he kicked 5.

I still remember the headlines

For some reason I remember that round 9 game versus North Melbourne at Princes Park in 1978.

North Melbourne had won there first 8 games of the season and we had started the season poorly, we had won the past two games with Jezza as coach, but North started as overwhelming favourites.

There was a huge crowd and the outer was sold out - but they were still selling walk up seats in the Hawthorn/Pratt Stand for $5 each (I think it was $5), I don’t know where I found the $5, but it was a bit of money for a 16 year old back in 1978.

It was a beautiful day and it was a thrilling match for 3 quarters until we broke them in the last quarter to win by plenty.

Galt marked everything that came his way that day to bag six goals, as you say he may have played a few better games later in the season but that day has stuck in my mind for 40 years and it marked our return to dominance as a top side for the next 4 years.

Vale Rod Galt.

Loved watching him as a kid in 78 79. Most memories were from games in ressies at PP when I was 8 yo. Could never understand why he wasnt in firsts more but after reading that article I think I know - would have been a great character to meet. RIP

I remember the Arden Street game as they only served Courage beer.
You needed courage to drink it even as a 15 year old I couldn't stomach it.

As I recall Courage were North’s major sponsor - did you ever try Courages low alcohol offering “Ace Lager”.

Yech!!!! :yikes:
