Hawks 2 wins have been unconvincing wins against Crows and North who are both stinking it up.
They have lost to Dogs Saints and Cats.

We are a big chance here

What to expect. In the past we could expect our blokes to be hit hard and often. With Lewis, Mitchell and Hodge leading the way.
Not sure they have that type in their ranks now but Clarkson being Clarkson, the bash is more than likely to be tried on. We need not only to stand up to it but give it back. Then run them ragged !

Take no shit !

my hot tip is; if we bring the same intensity as we did vee the dogs, we'll win. and win well.

... historically though, after a big win, we tend to come out flat and lay an egg. so this game will tell us lots about this group and if we really have evolved from the ratten days.

I hold similar feeling.

Something special about the resolve of this very very young group this year. Belief and comradery.

Genuinely excited for the teams to be announced tonight. We’re getting very close to our best 22 without the obvious long term injuries and the group coming back through the 2s last week. I’d expect expect at least 2 of Cuningham, Curnow, and Kennedy to come in. I think we’re still carrying a couple of players, and improving those positions will make a huge difference

Interesting thought jake. I do too.
If that's right, then why do we carry players?

To get games into them?
To find form?
The spirit they bring the group?
Need for speed?
They are the only fit player who is a 'type' for function required.
The MC Committee can't see it? ...I don't think its the latter.

I think I could put a name for each above mentioned reason.

I'm genuinely excited to see teams tonight.
Will Cuningham and curnow be recalled if fit?

I think it’s simple, out depth is still stretched when we have a bunch of injuries and we don’t really have many other options than to play guys who aren’t really delivering. It’s also a bit to do with how young we are and trying to get games into kids. For example I would say we’ve been carrying O’Brien the last few weeks. Not to say we won’t be a good player, but he’s 19 and would be earning his spot in the 2s if player like Doc, Williamson, Cuningham had been available. Another couple of years and we’ll have the depth, but for now we need close to our best 22 to not have any weak links.

Cuningham is an absolute Monty if fit because he is a like for like direct swap for the weakest of the weak links in Polson. Curnow I suspect you can’t leave out if fit, but all the talls played well so you’d have to swap him for someone like O’Brien. Either that or they’ll use the opportunity to give his knee another week if it’s still a bit sore. Kennedy is the other one who will be right in the mix. Had 13 clearances in the 2s and they might want some help for Cripps

Clarkson's Hawks like to be physical and dominate. They've done that to us for a decade.

Someone mentioned its easier these days with Hodge Mitchell and Lewis gone but Clarkson expects hard hits as unconditional modus operandi, hence why they dominated the Cats last week in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

I like our big bodies in the midfield and relish the prospect of Cripps, Silvagni Kreuzer and Curnow crashing into their mids Shiel, O'Meara, Worpel and Howe. Show them the kids have grown up and are up for the tough contest.

We have a few big bodies around the park especially if hitman Levi plays with McGoverne in the forwardline in addition to Newman, Plowman, Jones and Weiters in the backline.

Gibbons, Ed and Cuningham are mature bodies too.

I don't think this is the game for the like of OBrien who don't seem to like the hard hits.

The rest of our players are conditioned and up for it too Walsh, Fisher, Murphy, Thomas as are our classy clearance players Dow and SPS.

We are as ready as we've been in the last decade for these Poo stained birds.

Cometh the hour.
Cometh the Blues.

Anyway, Tassie has our turf for the last 80 years, so I expect huge support to will on the boys to victory.

Come on Bluebaggers !!!!!

Need to bring the same type of pressure game we played in the 2nd and 3rd term vs the Tiges.

And please no Polson.... He is a witches hat.

Thats old style thinking' Muzz.Just my style..............yep,get in first and hit 'em hard and often.Funny thing,Clarkson gets hot under the collar when he gets his own medicine. Can dish it out but can't take it...................reckon this gonna be a line in the sand game.Sorta game that that can set us up for the next five years and thats not bee'in dramatic.............time for this group to make a statement.Under no circumstances take a backward step......................think of our past greats, what would " Big Nick " be thinking' now.

Go boys, show 'em what your made of.Its now or never.

The Carlton Football Club.......................Now Always Forever.

The intensity has been there in all the games. The difference is we took our chances and they didn't.
We need to kick straight again and continue with the run. With the increase in confidence last week, players were willing to run in numbers more instead of dropping back to a defensive position. That's why we had end to end goals. When players were confronted, they had release options to give the ball too.

Clarkson will have some form of thuggery planned for us. Cripps and SPS won't be allowed to get 50 possessions by half time. The forwards can expect a lot more physical contact than they got off the dogs. Personally, I think it's a physical and mental challenge that will be good for our players. They're getting games and pre-seasons under their belts and it's a good time to see who stands up and who is still off the pace.

The players backed themselves in with first option against the dogs and had more numbers in support - much more so than previous weeks.

Whatever the coaches and support staff did at training last week it really paid dividends to the players mindset and application.

It's hard to think we'd go backwards on that mindset so really looking forward to how that goes against Clarko's mob who will be desperate to kick us back down again.

Fascinating contest this promises to be.

If we don't have the control we had last week does that mean our mindset and application has gone backwards according to your premise?

The Dogs were poor at the clearances. We had first use of the ball and took advantage to a reasonable extent. It's easy to run in numbers when you control the play. The good teams have a defensive mindset at the clearances until you win the ball. I'd hope we play the game on its merits instead of trying to replicate something that occurred against a different team.
The opposition won't be that poor every week. The Hawks wont allow us that space and play as loose as the Dogs midfielders did. Let's hope we can adapt and perform strongly over 4 quarters.

Im certain Clarkson will put the word to work over our youngsters when possible, let’s hope Kreuzer and Cripps return the favor and do the jumper proud, a few Hawks will need to rough up too.
Our youngsters must be protected.

Cripps gives us enough first opportunity to get something going. SPS and Dow getting more and more first use.

It's the hesitation, second guessing and thus poor decision making/execution when we have possession that's not provided dividends in the previous games.

I also think we had more players 'in the game' with less passengers, which pressured the dogs into some of the mistakes they made. Yeah they weren't at their best but let's not let that detract from our approach and application.

They obviously had a good week at training last week that resulted in a more confident and effective performance.
