May I just say, pleasing as it was, this was only a practice match.

Haven’t had a chance to watch and fully aware it’s only JLT.

Just really pleased there’s plenty of positives with no injuries. Rather than a deflating, underwhelming performance that forecasts more doom and gloom.

Hope the boys and coaches can gain confidence from yesterday. Personally believe that’s incredibly important coming from where we are.

It is important to remember this was only a practice match, and I'm sure we're still in for some pain, but it's hard not to get a bit excited when you see a midfield of Walsh, Cripps, Dow, Fisher, SPS, and Setterfield, with LOB, Stocker and Kennedy in reserve. Then chuck in Charlie, Harry, Weitering, Cunningham, TDK, and hopefully Williamson, that is a lot of young talent. We have the makings of a very good side. And after the 15 odd years of shit we've had to put up with, it's about time. Go blues.

Finally actually got to watch it.
Biggest surprise for me (having heard all the commentary) was how good Phillips was.

It may be because of the way Essendon* play (packing their defence) but we did bomb it up an awful lot - and almost never took a mark. McGovern flew for everything but was usually behind, Jack jumped in a number of packs but never looked likely - although he was ok after it came down. Hope we don't rely on this technique all the time.
I think McGovern will be good for us but probably our weakest forward in that game. Just the 2 kicks for 2 goals. Wonder if Kruze may be a better option in the short term (until Mc G fitter), rotating forward, although happy to see if things get better for McG in next JLT.

The other thing I don't understand: If Essendon* tend to pack their half backline to regain possession and then slingshot forward, we must have some players available to hang back a bit and 'build the wall' (which Mexico will pay for).
But when they burst from their D50 we didn't appear to have anyone available to block the corridor or they were so high up they were steamrolled past.
Then the bombers were out the back and got relatively easy goals.

A win is a win.

Our pressure for first 3 quarters was relentless
Moving the ball 45 degrees forward or across at worse instead of going back works
The connection by hand and foot was very good
Scored over 100 points with new game plan.

Not sure if we ran out of gas or Philips going out of the ruck had a huge impact.
Umpires had a little to do with Druggies momentum i the last.
We were able to control the last 5 minutes and take back the ascendancy.

   Walsh > Shiel. Can bank we won that deal.

Walsh not only amazing for a 1st year player, he was just amazing massing numbers and linking. Strong.

Philips is a good tap ruck man. Hope he stays fit. His mobility and marking around the ground were a bonus.

Cripps Fisher look like AA players. Do what they like
SPS has arrived. Time stands still when he has the ball.
Dow has goo speed, and looks to have recovered from minor surgery. His touch will improve.

Setterfield is the real deal and will only get better. He's the one I was hoping would stand up and he did.
Setters and Crippa in the middle with Fisher, Dow by their side are the future.
Setters will release Crippa forward and that means goals.

Weiters has stepped up.
3 talls in the backline stood up.
Newman is a great aquisition.
Really like Garletts run out of the back half.
Simmo, Newman and Garlett running ball get us going from defence.

3 Talls forward didn't do the damage we expected because they didn't play a full game together.
Talls were dangerous and Harry should have received more frees.
Small forwards Gibbons, Cuningham, Murphy are dangerous: 6 goals from crumbers.

Jack Silvagni belongs. Would have been great for him to start off with a goal because its usually a weapon.
He's strong, applies great pressure, footy IQ, tackles and is versatile.

Loved seeing what Cuningham and Jack do in the midfield.

We have plenty of mids to rotate through the guts and creat head aches for opposition when they go forward.

I guess we will see Kreuzer, Fasolo and OBrien added next game to put more pressure on positions.

Glad Stocker and TDK looked good in the VFL too. SOS has recruited really well.

Go Bluebaggers. I love youse all...

...and Bluegirl and AGRO, loved reading your commentary.

Yes! Great review as always BB. :thanks:
Reminds me of Gibbs too as has been mentioned but more his body and face than his playing...which dunno..maybe a bit Selwood/Mitchell?
I think we witnessed the 1st full game of a future legend.
BBW...we did try to tell you!
I thought agro was far too grouchy...we had to tie him to the bar a couple of times on account of the umps and..
Well EFC** in general.
I'm glad someone appreciated my reference to McGrath as that solo man from the 80's ads meets McGuyver/Barrassi.
What is up with this influx of moustaches eh? Even simmo. I blame Newcombe for starting it.

I knew Walsh was a great fit ... I didn't expect him to be this good. Rankine will amaze but very excited about Walsh and happy to be wrong!

I was however a little disappointed with our tall forwards. Half the trouble might be that we are just bombing the ball forward to them. The three big talls should be spreading out more and stretching the opposition. Delivery has to be better than the Madhouse bomb!

GO BLUEBAGGERS!

No, it isn't just you.
Similar body shape to the Brisbane version, Rich.
Short arms...

Not the one they inspect in the Army, but.

You'd think so.

I'm sure Bolton learned a lot from the experience.

i expect us to be etter prepraed for the slingshot.

Especially those square jawed Arnie look.

Didn't Arnie admit his square jaw was a typical bi product from steroid abuse?

Looks suss.
Looks Essendon* like.
I hope the AFL continue to keep a close eye on that camp. The general feeling is the AFL protects them* for some reason.
The whole comp is suspicious on the world reknowned dopers.

Upon watching game for 2nd time, I'd like to offer some additional insights.
1. Piss right orf Hurley.
2. Kade is looking quite Mercuryesque.

Only a practice match... But....
I took these +ve signs
SPS all class and winning his own ball.
Cunningham, prepared to bump.. His bump then fend off in the last(?) was a sign of boys becoming men.
Phillips was excellent, keep fit boy.
Will, confidence in his play... used his body well, no caution in his play..

Quite a few others.. Nice showing regardless of the fact that it was a practice match

Cheers
