I'm on the same page as you.

Plus I believe our midfield will not leak as it has in the past and provide additional team defense.

Gosh Im getting nervous thinking we might win. Then I rean Spooky Galt's post and I beg we dont get a spanking.

I really doubt the latter will happen for a lot of reasons.

I posted something similar when he went over.
This game could go either way but the midfield is super important. Imagine if we had selected Cotchin instead of Kreuzer.

Phillips Cripps E Curnow

Bench: J Silvagni Setterfield Fasolo Cunningham
Unlucky: Gibbons but may play instead of Jack

Garlett, Walsh, Murphy, Silvagni, Cunningham, Fisher, SPS, Cripps, Curnow, Setterfield, Dow can all run through the midfield, which is the strongest and deepest we have had for years. Still Kennedy, Lang to come in if needed.

watching JLT 2 -
3 observations re Phillips
1. Phillips always seemed to watch grundy before going for the ball so whilst he often neutralised grundy in the ruck it was often because Grundy deliberately went early. If Grundy had timed his leap right, Phillips would have been thrashed. When Phillips just went for it he did much better.
2. Ball on the wing, carlton player had a mark or free, Phillips could have run forward to be the next option but stayed put and tried to shepherd the mark - saw this a couple of times. He was simply to knackered to provide an option
3. did well against Grundy in marking contests

I've been impressed by Phillips. He's not a world beater but he's a strong competitor. One thing I did notice was he had a handful of Grundys jumper at a lot of ruck contests. He won't get away with it once the umpires take note.

I had Jack Silvagni in my best 22 for round 1.
Jack's shown a lot of improvement in all facets of the game over summer.
Spewin' he's out.

Along with Jack, Docherty, Williamson, Marchbank, Pickett and Kreuzer will miss too.
That's 7 highly rated players missing for round 1. A third of a team.

Kennedy and OBrien have been conditioned in the reserves. I had O'Brien earmarked as a wingman with his incredible running capacity and defensive mindset. Those 2 will most likely be emergencies, and after that...well our depth isn't that amazing when next in line is Polson and Casboult.

Nevertheless we have the players for a really strong best 22. Here's mine:

B: Simpson Jones Plowman
HB: Garlett Weitering Newman

C: Murphy Petrovski-Seton Walsh
R: Philips Cripps E.Curnow

HF: Fisher C.Curnow Dow
F: McGovern McKay Cuningham

IC: Setterfield Thomas Fasolo Gibbons

EMERG: OBrien Kennedy Casboult

Expect Fisher Dow Setterfield Cuningham and Gibbons to run through the midfield.
10 good mids should give Tigers plenty of competition through the midfield.

Hope Philips stands up for 4 quarters and doesn't tax our forwardline of Harry in the ruck for too much time.

We can win this for Crippas first game as bona fide captain.

How they line up is a bit different but I do like Garlett a bit higher than you and Daisy down back. Otherwise....

OR posted Jack will not play due to a calf injury, hence my selection of Gibbons ahead of O'Brien, Polso and Kennedy.

Daisy has played the 3 praccy games at HB with Newman in the BP when Garlett took the other HB.

I'm assuming Simmo was playing wing but played that as the extra backman and the HF moved up to the wing/ midfield role.

I didn't see any crazy running back to position to comply with the new 6-6-6 rule, other than in the Hawks game when the umpires waited for a Carlton player to get back "on side" which wont happen in the real deal.
