Setterfield was their initial priority.

That's an interesting point.
So are you saying if they got Setterfield they wouldn't have tried for Shiel?

I'm saying Setterfield was their priority last trade period and they upped the offer and terms for Shiel when Setterfield signed with us. I'm not saying they thought he was a better player at the time but that he represented far better value. Dodoro is a big fan.
Leading up to the 2016 draft, they were contemplating putting up Pick 1 for Setterfield instead of taking McGrath.

There is all kinds of skullduggery going on when it comes to academy picks.

GWS needed to go into that draft with a truckload of picks that they never intended to use, just to build up the points required to select their three academy players in the first round. If Essendon* bid pick 1 for Setterfield, they would've got him.

You can't beat the AFL at 'playing dirty'. They'll just change the rules to suit their agenda.

Not really.
It's all about speed to market.
Once a signature is on paper the AFL can GAGF

They couldn't change the rules to stop Swans signing buddy.
When all that was in the process, AFL Commission were rubbing their dirty grimy hands that their FA plan was going to get Buddy to GWS with no picks involved to disadvantage the Giants.

AFL Commission might be full of lawyers and a particular network of school tie, but that doesn't make them smarter just because they think they are.

The AFL Commission are white collar criminals by nature.
Not all crimes stay out of gaol.

They will continue to get caught out, and one day.....lock me now or kick me out.

Its a great point you make Rexy.

Carlton have made it no secret last year, this year and next year we are Trading in players we need to finalise the team for the 17th Premiership Cup.

We have a plethora of names.

Like last year there will be names we didnt expect or consider that popped up such as Newman and later in the piece Setterfield.
We knew about Shiel, McGovern and Fasolo.
Didn't have any inkling mid season we would take Gibbons Cottrell DeLuca.

This year there will be another surprise or 3 coming to the Blues.
Apparently the phone is running hot with candidates lining up to be considered.

...and 2 or 3 of those bandied around below are going to be in Dark Navy Blue next year:
Coniglio Martin Papley Ellis Cameron Gray

Get on board The Teague Train. Toot Toot

If Phillips is staying for a year then Lobbe must be going. I’m not sure why we would keep Kerr, not because he’s no good but because we have too many talks in the list....

Because we have Andrew Russell, I'd take Lucas Webb of the dogs if we could get him for next to nothing.

Would you take CEY from Adelaide because we have Russell?
