Added two mids who both win their own footy which was obviously an area where the club lacked depth. Lots of options now, certainly inexperienced/maybe injury prone but there is hope there.

Was discussing our trading relationship with the crows with a mate who barracks for them and we wondered how long it could continue. Then I realised we only have 1 south aussie left on the list. Maybe we’re reaching an end point. Or maybe we’ll have our turn raiding them.

I think this trade/draft period has been a resounding success so far. It's looking like not getting Shiel could be a blessing in disguise. Now they just need a mature age mid or two and possibly a small defensive forward in the preseason/rookie draft to top the list off nicely.

We have gone from the leat talented list in the AFL 4 years ago, to up there with one of the most talented IMHO.

Well done SOS and Carlton. :clap:

We've now got 11 months to decide if we want to use that 1st rounder to trade for yet another mid - this time and ready-made player, or go for a key position defender or forward.

It's a very good position to be in. Well done team!

I know it's only half way through the draft, but I love what we did tonight (and I'd never seen Stocker play, since he was injured during the under 18 carnival). If we couldn't get Shiel or some class senior support for Cripps, we've done the next best thing, in getting some young and highly talented midfield support.

I liked Stocker's highlights. But even more, I like the idea of Kennedy, Setterfield and Stocker all competing against each other to make their midfield their own (not that they all couldn't conceivably play at the same time, since Setterfield and Stocker look like they're pretty good movers). But that kind of competition has got to be good for the players.

Yes, everyone bar the resident pessimist, is worshipping at the feet of SOS.
Rightly so. Time will tell, as always, but his team found a way of getting one more crack at a first round mid - and getting two rated in the top 10 by the club.
Where the two first round picks finish up next year will provide endless forum fodder and media commentary - who won, who won - but it’s immaterial to a degree.
The club has snared the complete midfielder and another bull, who should see seniors action next year. Great characters and natural leaders. And one of them a year early.
Who can’t be excited by that ... AND Setterfield, McGovern, Newman and the Collingwood goal sneak desperate to turn his career around. Plus the basketball project player, just for interest.
And there’s a bit more fun to be had today and another Silvagni for the pessimists to talk down.
After years and years of recruiting incompetence and predictability, SOS and Co are taking us on one hell of a ride.
How refreshing to see Carlton - the club that ignored the draft for so long and had become an industry joke - to be innovative, using the new rules to, hopefully, its advantage and putting its balls on the line.
Love it.

may be dumb question but what does the pick 19 move mean for list numbers? Is there still a chance of more delistings to bring an additional new player, does it mean the last pick won't be used or does it reduce the number of rookie listed players in the list in 2019?

Kenny great post - agree entirely -it is also interesting to note that SOS with Graham Wright have lead the charge over a number of years -seeing first hand US draft system - so SOS has good handle as anyone on the machinations of these draft trends

This is just one example hopefully of the club being innovative and leading the industry like it did in the past

The best possible outcome is we've just traded next year's pick 18 for Stocker and next year's pick 1.

Most likely outcome is that we've traded next year's pick 8 for Stocker and next year's pick 10.

Yes. But bigger bodied. I think compared to our other drafted mids could be impacting games in twelve months after two preseasons. If we can get 6-7 wins next year look out in 2020.

Our senior list is full and SOS was on radio earlier and said we will use 2 picks in the rookie draft later today.
We will leave one spot for next year's mid-season rookie draft.
He said he thinks both players should still be available at our picks. I guess with pick 1 he means our next pick we should get who we want.
