What are you giving up for Bont,Grundy and Brodie?

$1M for Bont.....2019 1st round pick and 2nd round pick, plus player ... SPS or OBrien or Plowman
$1M for Grundy...2020 1st round pick and 2019 2nd rounder, plus player ... Fisher or Dow or Williamson

Brodie is coming ... for a 3rd rounder, and some cap relief for GWS

Fingers crossed.

Point is, we need an experienced big bodied mid with class like Bont, also need a dominant ruckman who accumulates possessions too, and the right age btacket.

Brodie is one of 2 targets likely to come to us for $ and opportunity...just the type of mid we need next to Crippa after Kennedy bust.

...small forward might be Cuningham and Deluca... we will know more about them in the next 10 games.

We already have a footy smart big-bodied mid who just got BOG in the VFL and is clearly modelling himself on the skipper.

He can model himself on him Rexy but he's miles away. Cripps is a ball winner. Like a commentator said once, he can smell the ball from the factory. Jack doesn't have that. He's a smart forward but he struggles to read it in the stoppages.
Thats why his tackle stats are so high. He's reactive whilst natural ball winners are reading the ball off the ruckmans palm, he's trailing them in. I still have hopes he'll make a very good inside mid but he's still well off it.

Perhaps he should model himself on Plowman...

Daisy, Murphy and possibly Simmo you would think will not be playing next year. A couple of class experienced players from other clubs is a priority.

No reason why Murphy wouldn't... he's the only one of the three who's contracted.

New era begins...

What if Daisy comes 4th or 5th in the b&f? Why get rid of a strong, senior premiership player who's still playing well? This belongs in the AFL media thread.

Like the notion... and then we'll complain the youngsters are getting smashed because there's not enough experience in the side...

Murphy still has a year to run and he won't give up the moolah
Thomas is playing well imo and if that continues would probably get another year

Simmo... loved his career but I have a feeling he'll retire

One things for sure... non of them should be automatic selections... not even this season

True.

But for me the new era truly starts when the above mentioned happens, including a ruck replacement for Kruezer (from the Kreuzer Cup fiasco)...

And... Josh Kennedy, Eddie Betts, Sam Jacobs, Lachie Henderson, Zac Tuohy, Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett all retire or are stuck in the reserves.

That's a new era ... and should be done by 2022 when we make the Grand Final, and play Geelong if Hendo and Tuohy are still around....a we win!

That's a new era.

Docherty and Ed have both signed new contracts.
Docherty has extended his contract until the end of 2021 and Curnow has re-signed for another year.

The mid season draft and possible trade will ensure older players go on and a decision can be made end of May instead of October

Of the expiring contracts this year, i'd like to see:

KEEP
01 - Jack Silvagni... there's not a lot there, but he's fortunate to be the 'type' that's needed.
08 - Matthew Kreuzer... still doing some elite things out there. Probably gets +1 until they can't strap him together any more.
14 - Liam Jones... hopefully he's just fluked the ADBC on the baseline test & needs a few goes to get near the mark again.
22 - Caleb Marchbank... can play.
24 - Nic Newman... good enough, similar to Jack in that he fits a profile. Would rather see a midfielder in the role.
28 - David Cuningham... seen some ok things, some not-so-much.
40 - Michael Gibbons (r)... far from elite, but worthy of promotion nonetheless.

DON'T KNOW/CARE
06 - Kade Simpson... ball is in his court
19 - Angus Schumacher... never a great sign when your best work is as a spare, but a change of staff might make something of him?
36 - Patrick Kerr... McGovern is in his spot, which is already looking superfluous.
39 - Dale Thomas... they're not exactly knocking down the door to take his spot.
41 - Levi Casboult... I guess this one hinges on Jones & the rucks. Still the worst kick going around, but less heartache in the back half.
42 - Kym LeBois (r)
45 - Hugh Goddard (r)
46 - Matthew Cottrell (r)

THANKS, BUT NO THANKS
21 - Jarrod Garlett... can't fit into a side that is desperate for what he was drafted to provide.
27 - Matthew Lobbe... cheap, but no good.
34 - Andrew Phillips... same as Lobbe.

Not a chance I would let Cunningham go. Still finding his feet but I reckon everything he does is class.

Ryder might be worth a look if we can get him.
Problem is Kreuzer would have to play in the twos.
