Anecdotal. Name 10 others from the same era that dived every week then.

or too much coverage/replays ruins it. There have always been stagers - blocks dropping as they'd been hit with a brick wall then bouncing back up to take the free, players have always sought to take advantage...spirit of the game is a wonderful colonial idea.

I think you are living in a fantasy land if you think it was as endemic as it is now.

but its not endemic, just spasmodic, a lot of spasmodic incidents of course (mathematically, E=SC2, when does spasmodic become endemic - perhaps when there are enough cameras to case the spasms?) but there you have it.

Lol. If you can remember 10 people from that era, you didn't live through that era.

I can remember Kernahan flopping forward in plenty of marking contests to accentuate contact.

You have just kicked a goal in the final minute to put you 2 points up.
You are losing the centre clearances by 3 to 1
The 6 6 6 puts the opposition with best chance of scoring particularly as the centre clearances are so one sided.
So you get your full forward to step out the square.
Then your entire forward line bolts into defense to fill the space.
By the time the ump conveys the message to the central umpire you have already flooded the defensive 50

It appears the AFL Have read this and have now introduce a 50 meter penalty

Currently watching 1970 GF on Fox.

No theatrics, no grandstanding, just two teams going hammer and tongs.

And a little blonde fellow who shall remain nameless has kicked 3 goals in the 3rd quarter.

But Teddy I've been assured everything is the same and there has always been rampant staging, surely this cannot be? Like me you must have been imagining things.
It couldn't be because our culture has changed to the extent that cheating has become largely acceptable, please report to your commissar immediately.

Peter Hudson flopped forward a fair bit when Wes Lofts and Vin Waite caught him in a sandwich as well.
Only three Full backs ever kept him goal less in a VFL match, Ruchmond's barry Richardson, who was at St Pats Ballarat when I started there, Ian Cooper from Collingwood and Curly Austin.
Also he was held goal less once in Tassie by one Bruce Greenhill from the now defunct Sandy Bay footy club

Not bad for a man who played senior footy between 1963-1981 in Tassie and Melbourne.
