Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but Bolts when pressed on this issue at his press conference on Tuesday of this week, indicated that as the coach his priority and laser-like focus is and needs to be on the remaining games BUT that he felt confident that the club would review their position on the PP at the end of the year. That to look at this prior to the end of the season would be premature and divert the clubs attention from the remaining games. Seems IMHO that there has definitely been a lot of discussion on this matter behind closed doors and that there is a chance that we will see a change in the club's stance come the end of the season. An interesting development!!

At what point is any pick around 20 a 'priority pick'. Any pick in that region is hardly club changing. A pick inside the top 10 is needed to genuinely assist us.
However I doubt we're getting that. The AFL have shown they are not really interested in our resurgence.

You’re could get an A-B+ player with that via trade, or a very good kid.

It actually highlights how the draft can’t actually fix big disparities. If there was no trading, we would get pick 1, then 19, after the premiers at 18. All our picks after that are after the premiers. Should we stuff that #1 pick up, we are worse off than the premiers.

This is concisely the problem. If your pick one does a knee or a serious injury that he can’t recover from fully, you are no better off than the best team of that year. Meanwhile the best teams can attract another FA, and you can get O’Shea.

Damien Barrett on radio said he has heard that us, Gold Coast and St Kilda will get PP this year.
Yes, St Kilda. The AFL are supposedly worried about the Saints list and think we have a better crop of young players.
If St Kilda get a PP on the back of one poor season then it really is a joke and so unfair.
Pretty sure St Kilda won about 11-12 games last year and the year before.

Wasnt Alex Witherden a PP in 2016??

If this is a strong draft, 4 picks inside the top 30, lets see how good SOS is.

PP should be pick 11. All the teams that miss the finals get a pick then the PP should come into play, will never happen though...

Wouldn't have anything to do with Gil's mate Simon Lethlean landing there would it? :donk:

Just like they handed us 5 friday/thursday night games off the back of Lethlean done-deal as our CEO.

The AFL are nothing if not obvious, wonder what else he is going to do for ol' mate Simon.

It really has become an incestuous vile little code, all those high positions should be held by outsiders given that none of these pea brained football industry maggots even know the understanding of the word objective, for me the final nail was finding out Demetriou tried to warn his mates down at bomberland, before that we had Ron Evans. I've been praying for a deadly gas leak to hit AFL HQ ever since.

If they do and the AFL grants them one then the only "fair" way to do it is CFC and GCS get a PP immediately after their first round pick and the aints get an end of first round PP. FFS they were EXPECTED to play finals this year.

We all know that makey uppey AFL will come up with something [redacted].

The AFL's problem with accepting they might have made a mistake may well work in Carlton's favour, I think they want to give the Gold Coast a priority pick at the front of the draft. But will have to give the team that finishes below them equal treatment, to sell or justify it to the other clubs. No doubt all the other clubs will all whinge and Gil may lose his nerve, but we will see.

There is also the chance Gold Coast will play hardball with Tom Lynch matching the offer could see them arrange a bidding war with the three suitors - Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn. A bidding war on draft picks or players would benefit Gold Coast, two first rounders for Bryce Gibbs, Tom Lynch must be worth that and more. The AFL character sent to help fix Gold Coast was saying it was an option after Buckley stupidly let slip he'd been meeting with Lynch. A bidding war takes the compensation pick out of the mix and gives Carlton picks 1 and 3, Gold Coast 2 and 4, with a very remote chance of Lynch ending at Carlton in the pre-season draft like Nick Stevens (I really can't see this last bit happening). Gold Coast need to stop the hemorrhaging of players out of the club otherwise it's Steven May the next year, and whoever the next as they become free agents.

Not sure how you can get the Saints a priority pick regardless of the mess they seem to be in, but you are right bluebo the AFL are the masters of makey uppey managment.
