Yeah well I got news for you. Murphy IS our captain! He's served the club well through our darkest years and could of went elsewhere over the journey. Did we give him the captaincy to keep him at Carlton? Probably if truth be told. And I wouldn't doubt for a moment we'd give Cripps the captaincy to keep him too. But until then Murphy is captain and that's the facts!

Exactly...in 'fact' only

All the other 'intangibles' that define leadership point to Cripps

If captaincy was based on hardness, inspiring acts, players running 100m to congratulate them and what ever else everyone brings up. Then why isn't Dusty the captain for the Tigers?

Here's a thought, just maybe captains keep teams balanced and inspire them through leadership, direction and cohesion. All of which, none have to be of a physical nature.

Not saying Murphy should remain captain, but maybe he is respected by the team a lot more then we the public know, like Cotchin is. You've go to be pretty naive to think the players don't have a say in who the captain of the club should be. They might not have the final decision but if they don't relate or respect him then I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be the captain.

Any team can make up the numbers, Tasmania for instance. We are irrelevant

Well when we went to the Gold coast it was far worse.
Players were blind folded whilst Bolton sang Kumbiah and Ging gang guly as well as found a peanut.
All the players had their hair dryers taken off them and nail polish and waxing wasn't allowed.
Boy did this not go down well

A Tasmanian team would be a disaster.

Best choice for Captain ? IMO it has to be Cripps. No disrespect to Docherty who would do the job very well.
But, we don't know yet if his knee will be 100%.

Not that I don’t believe your story  but let me get this right, we have changed over 40 players in the last 3 years and have the same problems as the previous group?

Lot of talk about the captaincy again.

Well let me say that whilst playing on field the past couple seasons I've found Murphy to be both thoughtful and very supportive whilst at the same time the way Cripps goes about it is downright inspiring.

Oh no ... wait a moment. I don't actually play for the Blues and have never been on field with Murphy.

Ok then, well what about the team meetings? Oh yes. Both lads speak well and deliver appropriate messages.

Whoops ... I've done it again. I've never actually been in a Carlton team meeting.

Well then, what about all those player social occasions? Yeah Murph's good. Really makes sure everyone feels welcome and included and ... oh dear I've done it again. I don't actually attend player social occasions.

So you know what? I wouldn't have a f*cken clue who the best captain would be and for all those intent on slagging off the bloke whose been doing the, (difficult), job for past six years or so perhaps you might like to consider if you're in the same boat.

This is a bit of a cop out, all you are doing is presenting an appeal to authority.

At the risk of coming across as a nervous nellie I've got to say I'm more than a little concerned over a few looming decisions.

1. Captaincy: With Cripps holding off signing on and Murphy putting in less than inspiring leadership from both a physical strength and on field body language intent perspective, and this concern is further reinforced after hearing Murphy talk about how he wants to keep leading this side, I worry Carlton might make the monumental error of not appointing Cripps captain, which IMO should happen very soon. I've been a Blues fan for many a decade and Cripps is as good a leader as I've ever seen. Making him captain is a dead set no brainer. The club should be offering him captaincy NOW. If they don't and he leaves then that'll be a complete disaster.

2. Trading Pick 1 for a number of inferior picks : lots of talk about maybe doing this, as there's a perception we lack depth so need as many picks as we can get. I don't mind trading 1 if we still get a high pick, IMO given the talent in this draft we must have a pick in the top half dozen. If we trade 1 for something outside that range, such as 8, I worry that pick might not get us a topline talent, which IMO is our no. 1 need. While I know there's no guarantee in the draft it nonetheless stands to reason the higher the pick the more chance you have of striking gold and IMO the top six this year are all striking talents (the two SA lads, the two Kings, Walsh and Smith) . If we forfeit the opportunity to get a topline talent it'll be another disaster. Regardless of injuries we are bottom with one win, we clearly need top end talent not B Graders.

3. Trading pick 1 for Shiel : he's a seriously good player and we need his type especially as he is a mid but IMO he is on the wrong side of 25 for our needs. I don't think we should be trading the only trump card we have for a player who potentially only has 5 years left. I'd rather a 23-24 year old high end mid than a 26 year old high end mid which Shiel will be next year. We are a long way off true success. We got Judd when he was 23-24 and he didn't bring us home the bacon though I know he tried. Let's not make the same mistake again with our only off season trump card. (Disclaimer : if the AFL wake up and give us pick 2 as a PP then by all means hand that over for Shiel).

The next 3-6 months loom as very very important for the club and I hope wise heads make good decisions. But I'm worried TBH.

Yes Roosy and co traded pick 2 (Josh Kelly) for pick 9 (Salem) and Tyson.

That's up to the recruiting staff pick well. You get terrific players with pick 9, or you should. Our two best players are picks 12 and 13.

Right.

No issue with our drafting, that's been very good. What SOS has been good at too is manipulating picks into better picks then using them well on Draft night.

Trading, a bit up and down. Way too many delisted free agents. Only one that has done any good is Wright.

Also what's clogged our list, beside the delisted free agents, all the steak knives we've got from GWS so we can get our targeted player cheap. You learn quantity does not equal quality. The targeted players haven't haven't been bad. Plowman, Marchbank and Kennedy have/will be ok. Pickett and Phillips have been decent "extras" but the rest are shit. Kennedy and Lang will be good players for us when they have better fitness. Geelong supporters were pissed off losing Lang.

We have good players on our list, mostly young though and still not fully ready. The rest now comes down to the coaching staff to develop them and coach them to their strengths with the right roles. That's a fail. Good players can always look shit if badly coached and developed. Why have players like Weitering, SPS and SOJ go backwards when before they showed plenty?
