Yep.
The AFL will probably give Melbourne one too.

4 win season following a preliminary final appearance the year before - as opposed to 6 wins in two years - Gil the Dill would be comfortable with that.

Actually I do remember the AFL emphasising the PP would only be considered over a multiple season period.
That being the case our record over the past, say four years is probably not much better than the Suns.
(Not that I'm seriously suggesting we should bother applying for one now).

We have probably only won a handful more games than the Suns over the past 4 years.

If I were our president, I would make sure we applied, just to keep the b@sterds honest.

The Teague era hasn't helped us.

Wins from 2016 season to current:

Melbourne 38
Fremantle 29
Brisbane 29
Carlton 24
Gold Coast 23

AFL will announce a priority pick soon and have told GCS it needs to be traded. Adelaide will get that pick potentially for Crouch. Everyone's a winner - except those who want a transparent organisation running the competition.

Surely this is a joke.
How does this help the competition other than, f@#$%ing with the free agency, trading, the draft and the general premise of fairness.
I bloody well hope Carlton have asked the question, even if we don't need it or get it. We still have a case to ask.

AFL Commission reportedly grants Suns priority draft pick in secret meeting
Quote:
The AFL commission has reportedly met in secret to agree on a major bailout of the Gold Coast Suns.

AFL Commission directors reportedly met in Melbourne on Monday ahead of the Brownlow where it was decided premiership battlers the Gold Coast Suns will be handed a priority draft pick at the start of the first round of the 2019 national draft.

The priority pick arms the Suns with picks No. 1 and No. 2 heading into the draft on November 27, knocking the Demons down to pick No. 3, despite the club finishing 17th on the ladder in 2018.

Rather than trade the coveted top picks, the Suns will reportedly look to use them to snag expected top draft pick Matt Rowell from the Oakleigh Chargers and Noah Anderson.

The decision to gift the Suns such a rich boost after another year of misery “has already been made,” according to The Herald Sun’s Mick Warner.

Warner told Macquarie Sports Radio on Tuesday the AFL committed to the priority pick assistance on Monday, but will look to announce the controversial decision next Monday at the start of the AFL trade period.

“Yesterday the AFL commission met and in secret they’ve awarded them (the Suns) the first two picks in the draft, so bad luck to those two kids who have to go up there,” Warner said.

“We’re being told they’re trying to keep it under wraps until Monday morning when the player exchange feeding frenzy begins.

Hang on a sec, why do the Crows deserve a makeyuppy PP, haha. Surely the Suns should have to trade the pick to us! Our records are similar. :banghead:

They need the pick. If they’re getting pick 2 I hope they use it well.

But anyone saying this isn’t their fault is providing a very thin veneer to the Suns own mismanagement.

Lyons out for nothing in return, spend pick 2 on Weller. Couldn’t generate a trade and overspent on the other. Is there much difference between the two players? That’s just absolute mismanagement. Is it the same people still running the club while these type of practices are happening? Because pick 2 won’t solve that.

If, like us at the end of 2015, your off field is so poorly run everyone wants out, that’s the clubs fault.

And I think their list has heaps of young talent, maybe as much as ours. They should be working on retention of that talent.

Exactly.
Lyons, you know the one who polled well in the Brownlow last night would be handy for them. Or at least they could have done a trade for hin and not delist him while he still have a year to go on this contract.

I think the Suns is a collective flower-up. A combination of bad decisions by the AFL and the club, and some bad luck.

- Poor choice of Ablett as captain/marquee player, without an obvious leader in waiting.
- Surrounding him with iffy foot-soldiers past their best (Bock, Brown, Brennan). Compare this with the value GWS have got out of Ward, Davis, Johnson and Shaw.
- The Karmichael Hunt debacle.
- Poor coaching choices, with McKenna (too soft) and Eade (too stubborn and old-school).
- Enabling a (alledged) drugs culture.
- Giving up/losing Dixon, Lynch, O'Meara, May, Caddy, Prestia, Hall, Saad, Matera, Lyons and Martin (soon) for SFA. A team with those guys would be pretty @#$%&! decent if you ask me.
- Pick 2 for Lachie Weller (WTF???).

Now they have to contend with their next great white hopes (Lukosius and King) fending off phonecalls from home on an hourly basis, and are starting over again.

Thank God for them Rankine re-signed and Swallow is remaining loyal.

Don’t forget the AFL playing hardball to prevent us getting Coniglio.

Oh sorry that was GWS.
