According to the H-S, Rankine has extended his contract with GC for another 2 years (end of 2022).

But Paddy that's one of the arguments against giving us a pick too: "it's not going to fix their problems". No one is suggesting that one pick is going to launch us into premiership contention, but it and extra pick can help. Walsh is a good example of that, (ie how a good pick can help).

The mouths that argue against a pick for Carlton, (Whately, Scott, Eddie etc), all make the same contradictory statements, but the AFL seem to buy them. Firstly we a strong young list that doesn't need any special help, (pigs arse), and secondly a PP isn't really going to help anyway. So how about STFU and let the AFL give us one then? Won't solve everything, but it might help ... a little.

Add Barrett to that list:

If
you listen to Tony Cochrane for 10 minutes ...

then
his elite salesman abilities leave you convinced the Suns need the pre-pick one selection in the NAB AFL National Draft. But reflection upon the damage done to the competition on past compromised drafts says it MUST NOT HAPPEN.

Why?

Lynch to Richmond for nothing, (because they won a flag), is still ok though, right?

Us winning will help give the afl reason to give GC a pp and not us despite our historical win-loss record

We don’t need it. Only wanted one last year so we could get a senior body. If it was gifted to us, fine, never say no to a leg up. Plenty of other Premiers have them in their teams. However, I know if we won a flag though you’d never hear the end of it. I mean they put up the draft picks at the end of today’s game for flowers sake.

I also don’t care if GC get one. It really now impacts Adelaide. Which is nice in a way.

hopefully 2-3 more wins for us anyway. It's nice to be wanting Carlton to win every game without having one eye on the draft.

AFL will be so glad they don't even have to consider us when giving GC "assistance"

Gold Coast need serious help or to be put out of their misery.

If not for a 3-week period where they won every game by a total of 10 points (including against us :banghead: ), they'd be winless this year. That said, they could also have 6 on the board if other close results went their way.

More picks and AFL assistance helps (especially if it robs Adelaide of 1 or 2), but it's not the answer. The club needs a sense of belonging and community, and for the people there to actually give a shit about it. One thing we could count on even during the tough Bolton journey was that the players cared about each other and the club.

Bur how you do that at a manufactured 'expansion' franchise is a mystery, especially given the track record GC has with teams in national competitions. The only thing I can think of is for the next group of players to stick it out. I'm glad for them that Rankine extended, hopefully followed soon by Lukosius and King. As handy as Jack Martin (or even Will Brodie) would be for us I also wouldn't be too disappointed if he stayed.

I'll worry about beating them next week before condemning them.

Gerard Whately on 360 just said that it is hard to mount an argument for the Gold Coast not to get a Priority pick this year.
Robbo threw up his hands and said what were the AFL thinking only giving them access to state league players last year.
The hypocrisy of these two is astounding.

We didn’t need a priority pick last year and we don’t this year.

From season 2015 and including round 17 season 2019, Gold Coast and Carlton have won the same number of games.

Whately and Robinson, no amount of Kleenex can wipe the dribble flowing from your chins.

Unfortunately it’s not astounding, it’s predictable. I could drag my posts up regarding predicting this exact situation for GC and the AFL through their media working this narrative after the trade period and before the season.

AFL completely abolishing priority picks is what should happen. How much better is it we have no incentive to lose another game this year despite starting 1-10?

Forget about this priority pick. I don't agree that GC need one anyway.
How will it help if the kid goes home in 2-3 years?
They need good mature players, even ones at the end of their career.
If Daisy doesn't get a contract at the Blues, he'd be perfect. Simpson too.
Roughead, McVeigh, Ryder, Goldsack, Douglas, Mundy, N Jones, Puopolo, K Jack, Masten.

Create an environment where the young players can develop without being smashed week in and out.
The AFL needs to get creative.
Give them 4 players over 30 out of the salary cap that are either delisted or their club gets some sort of compo.
