He's only having a sook because he knows if they don't win this year, all his betting on old talent will come to a sudden end and they will be out of the 8 next year. Keep sooking, Chris Sook, the end is near!

How hospitable of him. Obviously a big fan of equalisation.

Chris Scott is a Knob

I don't get Scott's argument.
His scouts will be looking at many many players, if one happens to become off limits then big bloody deal.

I wonder if he's against free agency rules as they currently stand when you're a contending club?

My own take on this is that the most important person at the club would have checked in with some of the powerful Old Xavs network within the AFL industry to sound out the likelihood of a priority pick. And I dare say, based only on precedent, that he got the answer he wanted to hear.

If you think about it - it's not a great look for SOS that his list management is perceived to be seen as not working. How SOS is perceived is very important to SOS. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he informed the current President over a bottle of Chateau Verdeflor's finest that he would be very unimpressed if the club put in an official application for assistance.

I think behind closed doors, while the clubs' decision makers are not happy with the on-field happenings, there is a firm belief that they are heading in the right direction and can be competitive without an extra selection at the draft.

Fair enough to consider as such.

Old Xavs network...I wonder if more than 10% of supporters know this fact.
I have spoken with people who have done work for the AFL, and they say its quite obvious its a nepotistic environment full of untouchables. Maybe closed shop.

Nope, we will get something.

AFL is desperate to help Gold Coast. Desperate.

However, the Gold Coast finished 2nd last with twice the amount of wins as us. The AFL is in a bind, hence will just double up the help, whatever it is.

Quite fortunate for us that we sucked worse than GC in the same year that GC really needs help.

Exactly. Nothing would have come our way otherwise.
Even StKilda are looked at being helped out, after 1 bad year!! Corruption runs deep.....

So much StKilda related stuff in the media lately... we're being groomed.

AFL is just as corrupt as any other organisation - private or government. Sad, but no surprises really.

“I’m not sure if by design you fall down the ladder you should be rewarded too much.”
They were Scott’s actual words.
Oh ok, by design Carlton lost Bryce Gibbs and Tuohy.
By design, Lachie Henderson didn’t want to play for Carlton and sat out the last few games so that he didn’t risk his pinky nail being tarnished before going to Geelong.
Scott has little understanding of the system or he is stupid. There are only two options.

The main reason why Geelong is still in the finals is that they get to rob “by design of the AFL system”players from weaker clubs.
Dangerfield, Tuohy, Henderson ( who was rated 12% above average at beginning of year as a key defender this year), Zac Smith, Scott Selwood etc.
For most of these players Geelong could “by design” trade them in for cheap as “by design” it is a destination club.

Clueless imbecile.

@ bondiblue: Groomed for St Kilda receiving assistance from the AFL as well.

@ tap in 79: RE: Scott, he actually does have a clue, he's just a self absorbed, hypocritical crybaby.

And as far from objective as is possible.

If we get it we should be using it on Shiel, not McGovern. McGovern both on ability and injury history is worth a second round pick, nothing more, and the Crows can carry on all they like (and they will) but ultimately they will blink. He's gone and will be dead wood on their list if they make him stay. SOS holds all the cards here.

EDIT: The only fly in the ointment here is that SOS bent them over and extracted maximum return for Gibbs - particularly in light of their poor season this year. The one thing that may work against us is that they may still be so incensed with this outcome that they block the trade just in spite of us, but this wouldn't be so smart.

Geelong has never benefited from AFL assistance! Neither did Brisbane!

Aside from the stadium stuff and the extra cash in the salary cap and the father-son bargains and the... etc. etc.

Robert and Red that pick wont get Shiel in my view particularly if it is pick 19 but what it will do is put Hawthorn in the frame to get him - lets see if SOS can use that pick and get McGovern and something back - doubt even if it is 11 or 12 it will get Shiel
