I didn't look past ''Hamish'', thought it was Gil's brother...

I’m also underwhelmed by Barker and Bruce. And was a bit surprised by McKintosh.

However, I’d make two qualifying points:
1) who’d ever heard of Bolton when Clarkson had him as assistant? Who’d heard of Clarkson even when he was appointed senior coach by the Hawks?
2) If I’m honest, my feelings (underwhelmed) are not based on anything concrete at all. I have no idea what they’re like as coaches or people or leaders or teachers. I have barely even heard Bruce speak!

So, I’m happy to give Bolts and crew the benefit of the doubt. It’s Bolts neck on the line - I doubt he would put that in jeopardy when he’d have a pretty strong field of assistants to choose from.

As an additional question: I saw HM coached while he was still playing. Has he coached much since then?

It's good to see Amos returning to coach the backline again. They functioned very well as a unit in 2017 when he was calling the shots. It's good to rotate the coaches for their development but 2-3 years on the one line should be a minimum.

Yeah, it's hard to know the factors from the outside. But the seeming defensive confusion in the 1st half of the year was probably the most disappointing thing this year. We devolved from a well-structured defensive unit to a defensive shambles. Hopefully Amos can get things back on track.

While the grass may appear to be greener (Mitchell would've been a great acquisition) we shouldn't just change for change's sake, and let's not forget a full review of our coaching was done along with our fitness/medical area.

So (Barker aside - still baffled by that) I'm happy to trust that the team we have are the best people we can get for these roles at this point in time.

Of the 10 assistant and development coaches, other than Barker they are all new.

Carlton’s new high performance guru says he’s been pleasantly surprised after arrival at Carlton
Jon Ralph wrote:
But he said it was the perfect time for a new person to join the Hawks’ journey as the premiership coach was contracted for four more years and the list was on an upswing.

For every industry person who had lauded Carlton’s coup in signing Russell, there were equal numbers of wags on social media who said they had never seen a sports scientist getting a kick.

What Carlton knew was that he was much more than a sports scientist after two decades in the industry.

Russell will help set up a program that minimises injuries, and extracts the most from its talented but raw list.

“I have been pleasantly surprised about the enthusiasm and energy in the place, and it’s a different energy to a club like Hawthorn which has been up there for a long time,’’ he said.

“There are so many people here who are excited about working towards being a good football team.

Russell has a wealth of experience across a trio of elite clubs that he hopes he can use to instruct Carlton’s young brigade and inspire them to be their best.

“You talk to a kid and say, ‘You are better than Luke Hodge at doing this. You are not as good as him at doing that’.

“So they say, ‘I am better than Hodgey at that? And then if I can get as good at that area then I can work towards being a good player’.

“There is so much more to football than just training.

“The best players become good players because they embrace the holistic nature of what they do.

“So hopefully I can teach them habits about how they train, how they live, how they eat, the role they play in the footy club.”

I think we're really gonna like this guy

Read the article................what i really liked was Russell saying he felt he knew it was a BIG club the minute he set foot in the joint..........The AURA ,though badly faded,is still there. You can't manufacture that, you got it or you aint............and its that latent big club feel that will soon erupt...................reckon the wheel is slowly but surely turning...............dunno about you guys, but i refuse to turn the other cheek no matter how bad we are going.Stay on the front foot folks.Never, ever back down.

Selling 'hope' to the fans has been our lifeline for too long really.

But you have to hand it to the club for landing Andrew Russell. It's created a buzz I haven't seen since we landed Judd. Massive recruitment in more ways than one.

...and what they eat, I hope.

Put it this way, if he still wants them having their 'Complete Dairy' smoothies after the game, he's not that good after all.

I know my kids will experience what I did since 1968 GF as a kid.

I love our list...as it is...and with a FA and a 'hot' Trade next year as the cherry on top...we will play finals in 2020.

Its the list and the club in 2019 I'm really looking for.
Everyone knew we would feel pain peeling back the team and rebuilding the lot: on and off field
