If I'm Cain Liddle or Brad Lloyd I'm targeting Luke Hodge as an assistant.

The smartest football person I think I've ever seen. A football genius.

Assistant to Fagan next year and probably 2 more after that. Then possibly senior coach at Brisbane for 4, 5 years. How long are you prepared to wait Rexy ?

Interesting appointments.

With Power, you could argue there's no-one in the AFL landscape more appropriate for developing young players than the AFL's own youth coach.
And Playfair's whole position is interesting to me. I'm not sure how it works in practice, but the idea of taking vaguely H.R.-based responsibilities away from Teague and allowing him to focus specifically on coachng the playing group is interesting.

Very happy to have Luke Power on board. He has a great reputation since retirement for his ability to develop young talent.

I know less about Playfair, but I'm more interested in the role itself. Why is there a need for a 'Head of Coaching performance', and WTF does that even mean??

These shape up to be as meaningful and powerful appointments this off season as Andrew Russell’s was last year.

I presume it's like what Neil Craig was doing.

Take a walk on the boardwalk, advance to Playfair.

Playfair's resume reads very well. Better experience than Rhys Shaw.

2 gun appointments

You have to be doing something right to get to do a level 4. Isn't it only like a dozen or so a year who get selected?

Good to see Playfair is highly regarded as a coach.
Because he wasn't much chop as a player.

My understanding is that Playfair is going to be doing much of the HR stuff so Teague can focus on the footy.

and that's a great layer of support in a fantastic structure that supports the players and coaches:

Director of Football Chris Judd
Head of Football Brad Lloyd
List Strategy Manager Steven Silvagni
Director of High Performance Andrew Russell
Head of Coaching Henry Playfair
Head of Development Luke Power
Next Generation Academy Zac Dawson
Indigenous Development Jason Misfud

With this structure, if a new coach comes in with his preferred Line coaches, the structure and the direction of the club continues.
We've learned a lot since Sticks apponted the autocrat Malthouse. Well done MLG.

I'm convinced this is a plan for sustained success after the 17th ... decades long ... for generations to come.
