Mitchell’s return to Hawks “almost inevitable”: Edmund

(For some reason you need to copy and paste the link)

...and this is based on???? Just sounds like another journo looking for something to write about.

Apparently coaching isn’t for him and going back to teaching (according to Tex Walker)

That everyone wants to go to Hawthorn?

Notice how often "My mail is #### is off to Hawthorn" is used anytime journos clearly have no idea?
They probably just copy and paste it next to people's names periodically when nothing is happening.

I don't really care either way we get or don't get Mitchell.

But if I were him I would absolutely choose Carlton over Hawthorn for his career path at this stage of his journey.

We are rock-bottom right now. The only way is up. The CV will look better if he helps us improve; whilst Hawthorn have massively over-achieved this year and are more likely to gravitate back towards centre-of-table (in my opinion).

Doc Sherrin said he sees the players as cattle. While I take his point, I see them as thoroughbreds. If you, or in this case, Carlton, invest in prime young gallopers/ players, you would want them handled by competent people.
Best case scenario by someone like Darren Weir, Chris Waller or similar.
If we accept that Brendon Bolton is the man we want as head trainer, we need to give him the best possible support staff.
Both Darren Weir and Chris Waller would rely heavily on their stable foremen and stable hands. Because they can't be everywhere at once.

No different with Brendon Bolton.

We can have a recruiting bonanza, but if we don't give those players a top notch coaching PANEL, then we're wasting our time, money, and the player's talent.

In my view getting this right is that important.

Great post murray

I totally agree with the anaolgy.
Apt for AFL footballers: some from great lineage, some starting a lineage of their own, some just freaks of nature, some never given a go because of where they were bred.

I heard through someone with regular contact with Hawthorn players/officials that they have told him is going to Carlton.

If that's true, that's a bigger recruitment coup than landing Gaff.

Yes agree Mitchell will be a a very good midfield coach and may well bring Gaff along with him.
He's held in high esteem at th Egales. Keep our fingers crossed.
Just a little more patience another week or so and things will get rolling.

Now we have to wait another week to see if we have a chance of landing Mitchell as a midfield coach.

Going by the improvement of the Eagles midfield, if we land Mitchell I will be absolutely stoked.

Doubt it...

Rumours from a couple of years back look true

Mitchell will be senior Box Hill Hawks coach and then take over from Clarko in 2 years is my insider Hawks mail. The Hawks will just keep rolling on as always. The AFL needs a strong Hawthorn. They may well land Gaff too....

If we don't ditch Barker and get a top assistant coach in now, then I reckon Bolts will be gone end of next year. Recent history shows you need quite a few years to hone your craft as a senior coach (Hardwicke, Buckley, Bomber etc) but doubt we'll have the patience if we get another spoon.

Complete garbage, the AFL has no need for a strong Hawthorn. They are just another Victorian team, nothing special.

I can well believe Sam Mitchell will go back to the Hawks.
But I do not believe the AFL needs a strong Hawthorn.

I hope Geelong and Hawthorn fall off a cliff and have an extended period of misery.

Errrr......I was jesting - along with previous posters - the last thing the AFL needs right now is for the arrogant leafy inner eastern suburbs dwellers to have more success. In fact 20 years in the wilderness would be quite nearly adjust things to the desirable level. Problem is they keep doing it so well they ain't going anywhere in a hurry

My bad, I totally interpreted it wrong. That club, along with Adelaide, really rub me the wrong way.

Hawforn are doing it with smoke and mirror just as we did in the late 90s. Two years ago out of the finals in straight sets, missed finals last year, and this year out of the finals again in straight sets.

9 or so of their players will be 30 plus.

I feel like they will have a period of suckiness ahead. Good luck to Sam Mitchell if he goes there and replaces Clarko.
