Bolton: Freo was in reasonable nick from last week and jumped us from the start. Our response was too slow.
Bolton: It could have got quite messy, but to our players' credit they fought back in the second half.
Bolton: We couldn't lock the ball in our forward half. Our pressure wasn't up to standard.
Bolton: Leadership is a work in progress. We're missing leaders like Docherty, Murphy and Alex Silvagni, but that provides leadership opportunities for others.
Bolton: Playing consistently at a high level is a learned behaviour. That's what we have to aim towards.
Bolton: We don't accept losing, but our age profile has dropped significantly this season and we have many injuries. We'll fight through it.

Same old bullshit about age profile and injuries - freo were younger and have much longer injury list ..... ?

The defensive mindset in some of our players costs us a lot of scoring opportunities. If the opposition turns it over forward of centre, GO!!! You do not need to kick it sideways and backwards to setup, they aren't setup so hit the scoreboard when you can!

That would involve running.

Skills are ok, game plan and adaptability are poor..
Effort was extremely poor.

No blocking, shepherd and half arsed tackling.... won't win at AFL with that going on

Go Blues

Look Bolts, I like you, but FFS if you want the ball locked in our forward line, start playing guys who don't move like glaciers and are basically witches hats when they don't have the ball

If Pickett, Le Bois and Garlett have half decent games this week then please bring them in & lets see if that helps

Not hard to work out is it? Just too tall and Caz back without a tall being replaced was MC insanity

This is the key. Look at Freo.....more youngsters than us but look at their senior core.....Fyffe, Sandliands etc versus Simmo and Kreuz. We have no one for our young guys to feed off or follow. Basket case.

Weitering shows zero intensity and follows his man to the ball.

We would be worst at getting ground balls in our forward 50 in the AFL.

First half just about worst I have seen.

Jones, Cripps, Fisher, SPS, O’Brien all good. Simpson good after half time.

Murphy, Kennedy, Marchbank, Docherty and Pickett would improve this team no doubt

Kerr's a 19yo who's in his 2nd year. Took 8 marks today and has shown something in his first few games.

Love how supporters write kids off.

A little leaguer would have had the balls to take that shot from the point of the ten yard square. And she'd have kicked it.

Because it is an excuse, our problems are much deeper than that, there have been premiership teams with the similar age profiles, probably even younger.
It becomes o.k to lose because we don't have enough 23-27 year olds. This filters down to the playing group. This is how you end up with a losing culture. Then we go for a quick fix by bringing in players who are in the right age bracket without doing due diligence, we are reactionary, we will never succeed with this mentality.

I get all of that..... But that wasn't the problem yesterday.

There's a reason the supporters were Booing at half time. It's not because Charlie or Wright missed easy shots... It's because they were watching the game.

Watching a Freo player under pressure on the boundary, so a teammate runs to help and receive a tap out or handball.... His opponent sits back...that's why he receives it and is away.....probably in the next link up play too because no one has followed or chased..

That's an example... Was happening everywhere..

Block, pressure, run etc, don't need to be 22-27 to do that..

Players have the skills and plenty showed it, but almost all, yes ALMOST ALL were on holidays in the first half

I get we get killed in contested ball and that will take time....BUT

THAT'S NOT WHY SUPPORTERS WERE BOOING.

Go Blues

It's Exactly why we need a priority pick. We need high picks to trade for quality mid aged players like Gaff, Kelly etc. Otherwise we have nothing as these types of players are not going to come to the club to win a premiership anytime soon. Shit....we couldn't even get Rockcliff, Saad or Smith let alone any elite players.
Or everyone just has to come to terms with us waiting for our top picks of the last couple of years to mature and the club needs to lock them into long contracts to stop letting them get poached, especially the kids on the fringe of elite kids.

I agree too. The paying group seem to have no accountability for poor disposals, but this also comes from the fact we have had so many injuries they know they won't be replaced because the coaches need wins for the board, members and their jobs.
For the rest of the year the club needs to make a public statement and say if you have 5 or more poor disposals per game your off to the 2's. And put a minimum quota on pressure acts. At least we will see who wants and needs to remain at the club and it might even attract some quality players because of the need for accountability.
